My journey into mmj started last fall.
I teach a niche martial art so there arent too many students. One of my students, a 30something female, had a mother with bad breast cancer. She was at home undergoing yet ANOTHER chemo treatment and was unable to sleep or do much, and was in constant pain.
My student/friend(the daughter) had a friend whos husband grew herb and offered some for the mother. I thought this was a wonderful thing as a pot smoker myself. At the time i didnt realize that herb really helped my ADD and anxiety. I just liked getting high...but mainly bc it took away that feeling in my chest.
Unfortunetly the mother passed away around Thanksgiving time and her daughter(my friend) inherited a GIANT house for 1 lady to take care of.
At the end of January, I moved into a room in the giant house. And upon some discussion her and I agreed that it was ok for me to experiment with growing some plants. She too suffers from anxiety and bad back pain, and hates the way muscle relaxers knock her out.
So here is the real point of this story: we both jumped into this project head first with no knowledge what so ever. A motivating factor was that I received a french press for coffee for x-mas and was curious what i could do with the grounds. They are a good means of fertilizer i learned and that was the medium i started the seeds in. They were spindly and weak sitting in this medium under winter sunlight through a kitchen window. Their spinlyness was comical!!
When they started looking like pot leaves i wanted to move them from the kitchen window. So we decided to move to the attic which was warmer in the winter and had a vent...a nice space, enough room to walk in and stand.
I received an email from my roomate(the daughter) stating "i bought a grow light"
I WAS EXCITED TO THE MAX!!!! A grow light...a legit grow space...things were coming together!!!
I return home expecting a nice light fixture to put together and hang....
.....
to my surprise i find a bulb box on the counter...inside, a 75W blue tinted desk lamp "grow" bulb...needless to say my excitement vanished a bit and the plants didnt do too well until a couple months later when i repotted them and placed them outside under spring/summer weather conditions. They had started to flower only bout 9" tall and a stem that i think would have broke if any buds had formed. They started to veg again when placed outside :-D
They are doing fine now and are flowering. They seem to be females and are with 3 other plants inside under 12/12 400W MH lights.
Ive learned alot in those several months and am really excited for them to come along since ive had them for so long.
I just find those beginning steps to be hilairous and that my roomate, who was a biology major at an Ivy League school, thought 75W from a desk lamp would be enough light for big bushses to grow hahaha
