Rep Power: 167 | | Seed Selection I clipped this pic from a fellow grower elsewhere. At the time I had a grow going....all turned out male and hermie. Needless to say I was bummed out. So I got hold of some quality seeds and was about to germinate. But I thought about this picture diagraming how to identify seeds that will grow into a female plant. Chrystal ball, voo-doo, dreaming, or crazy....Call it what you want. But I used this chart in choosing which of my seeds to germ. As of today...5/7 plants of mine are female with the last two not yet showing sex. So I thought I should throw this up here....You be the judge. |

I've seen this before, and have used the method, With about 90% success rate. But I can go threw a lot of seeds in a season. So I am bound to see some males..

Not gonna say it isn't true...
but I'd love to see someone do a test with about 20 beans chosen via this method and see how the M/F ratios play out...and then see a "random" pick of another 20 of the same beans and see how those M/F ratios play out.
I just buy/pop some female or good fem'd seeds from an experienced breeder if I'm wanting an extremely high ratio of girls...
or I just whack a tray of clones! ;-)

I first seen this in a Hightimes mag years ago,
I will be willing to do a test on this in the spring to show every one it works. But till then I don't have the room..

Shaman,
I gotta thank ya for this one because I've been a real skeptic about that picture. I didn't have to open it because I've seen it before. Somethin' about the perfectly round beans with holes are ladies and the footballs are guys, along those lines...
But yeah, If you could do some research on that, I personally would be grateful...

Wonderful endorsement ! That is good enough for me, to say it works.
If a Master grower like tokecrazy does this and it works, then it is true.
That is all she wrote.
Thanks toke.

I guess I'll have to try this with my new seeds. They should arrive within the next couple of days. I ordered some "Cluster Bomb" from HGS. If they are like the description on the web site, I will be sooooooooo happy.

Your going to have a hard time deciding. I got the Tri-Pack of BB, WW, NL5 (36 seeds) and most of mine looked pretty perfect. I had a long debate with myself.

Hey Yah that chart got me curious now. I will have to experiment and see how accurate it can be. I had never seen anything on that. I was just thinking the other day if there was a way to tell anything from the bean stage. Thanks for bringing that post back to life.

Rep Power: 202 | | Gee whiz... this kinda adds a new twist. The only practice I'm aware of to produce more females is giving the tap root at least 4" of vertical room to grow after potting, the idea comes from Europe and I think it does increase the ratio by 20 to 30%. Gotta go now, and check my seed stock for wrinkled bottoms. Gona be interesting!!! Peace |

I guess me letting the seedlings stretch and planting them in the deeper pots could do this too. Thanks for passing that info on Zig. fascinating.

I practice this also...I usually do 6" of soil and back fill 2" of the stretch. So when I repot, I get about a 8" column of roots. But seed selection is first of course.
