Default santa marta colombia terrain

i googled santa marta colombia (check the terrain & roads) and there's flat land on the shore and it goes up into the mountains (barely a road up there) where you could easily grow plantations

(so I expect that's where a lot of grass came from) back in the day when they shipped up in giant ships. ahh the good old days (that was great weed) i remember it as more red than gold but i only saw a little.

i worked with a man that went to college there (never asked him about grass) and he said it's a beautifull town.

i'm getting the bug (now) to visit there.

one correction,
the highest peek in Santa Marta Colombia appears to be 2600 meters (according to the google terrain map)

Default correct myself on the mountain altitude

Wikki says 5700 meters but i can't seem to find that on google maps.
anyway thats 17000 ft above sea level and close to the equator so the light waves up there must be extreme.

thinking back there were 2 santa marta gold & red.
i remember the Colombian as sativa; don't think they had indica back then.

not sure the humidity level up there for sure but i expect it's humid & tropical in the mountains. indica may have a problem with that.

Thanks for all the great info OneGreen!

As I understand it, this is the Columbian Sativa that I'm supposed to have. All I'm afraid of at this point is that there won't be any gals in the mix...that, and I've only got 4 seeds.

As soon as I get this grow I'm working on going I'll have to germ these. I don't know their age, and no need to mess about with them if they can't germ.

Default sprout some indicas also

well if they are sativa you may want to have some indica going at the same time and use the santa marta male to pollinate; for a hybrid.

Default santa marta gold

santa marta gold is one of the classics of the cannabis world.
its a PURE colombian sativa strain, much like the old thai, vietnamese black, morrocco kif, afghan, malawi gold (see green house seeds video)...

so basically, what you have there is pure gold. like someone else posted the gold colour in the name comes from it being a sativa that turns gold (or red) as it matures ant if dried in the sun, it would also turn a dark amber colour. like most sun dried weed.

id say make the best of it, you have in your hands 4 seeds of some of the best genetics on the planet. even if they are males, experiment. it shouldnt let you down.

now as for photoperiod of flowering ... its equatorial, so it may be a bit tricky a seem to take a hell of a lot of time. be patient, it will flower.

im actually waiting for some of the same strain myself at the moment. so in my eyes your a damned lucky guy. it is a sort of 'forgotten' strain, like some of the original classics from the flower era... with all the new age strains and flavours which are based on small number of pure races and limited genetic material. it seams like today everything is a type of skunk or based purely on afghan material or whatever... there isnt really that much diversity. everyone caught the skunk train or so it seams.

the fact that you cant find anything on such an excellent strain shows what im talking about, even in such places as colombia ( santa marta gold ) and mexico, and bolivia, brasil, thailand, vietnam, australia (where there used to be some wicked anonymous weed, great stuff, mostly all gone now, or very rare) you get today some sort of skunk hybrid, and people are forgetting about the great local weed, which used to be what travelling and smoking in long faraway places used to be all about, experimenting the local weed, not the local skunk.

anyway sorry for rambling on, but its all a bit sad really....

like i said, take care of it, experiment, you can be sure you will have one of the best genetics possible, one of the greatest weeds ever, and no-one, but absolutely NO-ONE for hundreds and hundreds of miles will have anything like it, exclusive, its a different league altogether. its unique. like having a dinosaur for a pet.

really, i cant stress how lucky you really are!

by the way, if the malawi is pure malawi then what i wrote about great classics in weed stands for that one as well...

Default classic strains

u on target ileso. all those skunkish strains can get a bit boring, all the crossing, back crossing, crossing with another skunk strain.

thanks to the internet cannabis forums , cannabis lovers around the world can collect their own local strains (like the ones you mention) and send them to us around the world so we can sample and save and preserve these great strains.

many cannabis lovers are preserving landrace strains and looking for new unique strains.

i'm sure in the back woods of some far off place (where the skunk pollen has not fallen) we'll find many special ladies and their gentlemen friends for our pleasure.
