ok, I'm moreover back. and with new update.
the situation in my grow has changed.I got rid of Papaya and Aurora, AK and Bubblelicious as they defied their feminine side in majority and gave me only 2 females from 18 seeds.lovely.they are gone.
I mentioned before I got 10 feminised seeds of Trainwreck from Greenhouse. ladies germinated ok and now they enjoy their second day as seedlings.
I'm planning to order more seeds but haven't made up my mind yet as what to choose.I'm thinking on some lovely strains from World of Seeds ( Yumbolt 47 or Skunk 47) or maybe Alaskan Ice from Greenhouse or something from Nirvana (Snow White).
my first cloning experience went horriebly wrong - all clones turned yellow and don't give any signs of roots after 10 days. I'll try again with other plants.per aspera ad astra
Wow raf., I've never heard of male ratios like those. I personally expect 6 to 8 females out of 10 seedlings everytime. Letting your Tap roots grow 4" vertically will help develop more girls. On Cloning, you might want to try a "Perlite Wicking Bed" next time. They are very simple and work well. If you want the directions, let me know. Peace

thx Zigzag.
yeah,I was also shocked but to be honest I didn't pay to much attention to that grow so the conditions were not ideal - light 24/7, rather high room temperature and relatively low humidity didn't help for sure. I simply picked the wrong time to start the project.I was too busy with other things.
I hope to change it this time and give my grow much more attention and love.
thanks a lot for suggestions Zig
let it grow lads
Hey Raff... , Runing new seedlings 24/7 will stress the heck out new shoots. Stress causes the plants to go Male/Hermie. Outdoors a random seeding/planting will run 60 to 80 % female, always. Mother Nature knows what she wants... Peace

Zig, I beg to differ with you on that. I start and veg all my plants on 24/7 light and not a high ratio of males, nor of hermies. I have had one this round, and it was feminized seed so I was watching for it. I know this is from a friend, these seeds, and tend to hermie. The blueberry have not come clean on their bend yet, but I did grow all my plants this way, with no probs. and yes, that is the ratio I usually get with non feminized seeds. aprox 60 to 80% female.
I'd agree with Jangel. av never seen a proof that longer light stresses plants.
in my case I think it was more like bad seeds choice than anything else.
that new lot grows fantastic...pictures soon
ive sometimes found it very difficult to get males from 20 seeds or so. to have that ratio go th other way for me is quite strange.. but hey, someones got to get the males right?
as for world of seeds ive tried them and to be frank i got ratios close to your male ones only mine were duds. ie, non sprouters, the seeds looked very light and weak.
i have over the years rarely bought seeds directly from seedbanks, ive had a few mates that would buy a pack of seeds on odd trips to amstrdm which theyd give me to grow in exchange for just the produce of one single plant (i enjoy this part heheheh). so i have had some experience with shop boght seeds, but sincerely the ones from world of seeds, in my humble opinion is all hype and no substance. i had gotten hold of some morrocan (suposedly) got 2 sprouts in 10 and one was male...
but hey maybe someone else has had better results from them... ask around, better than finding out the hard (costly) way
.. i know the seedstock is suposed to be heavenly, and full of exotic hard to get strains...

Ileso, thanks a lot and sorry for delay in my reply.
I think I'll take your advice and give up on World of Seeds. I received reply to my mail from them ok, but it didn't tell me how to solve the problem I had.
there's tens and tens of different seedbanks on the net so if they are not bothered why should I be?
Thanks very much for your information
hello hello,how are you guys.
it's been 10 days of life for Trainwreck and the strain looks good, looks mighty.
I'll post some pictures later on.
guys,I encountered a small problem.I had well over 100 seeds from unknown source and I threw them in soil wandering if any of them will sprout.seeds were old and had many adventures in their life so I wasn't really hoping for them to be still alive.but...around 30 of them have already sprouted and the rest is coming.what would you suggest to do with them in very contained space?SOG? what size and shape pots to use? can I use 250ml plastic bottles?seeds are regular and I'd like to keep one mother of them.any suggestions, please?
cheers lads.

well, i'd SOG the lot. how much room you got?
sprout them into little hydro soil kits like i did in my indoor thread if you go look. im going to post how to make em tomorow, but i reckon you can figure it out... use 1.5 L water bottles as containers. cut them in two with the bottom part just high enough so that the top turned on its end will just toutch the bottom or sit just above it and the top part fits just snuggly inside its own bottom... try one or two to see how thety fit cause not all bottles are alike and require different cutting heights etc...
anyway go to the thread and take a look... id veg them for a week or two once they are fixed in and flower the little blighters, i wouldnt let tehm branch. they shouldnt grow too much if your lucky you'll have a carpet of bud in a month or two
either that or sell the little buggers or give them away

Thanks for your help Ileso.
I'm currently working on expanding my grow space a bit so to contain that SOG.there may be a problem with over 60 bottles to collect was wandering what if I put them in 1 or 2 big plastic containers - 60/40 cm?I suppose plants would start fighting for space and light but how seriously would it effect them?I will have to pull males anyway at some stage and that should add to space.I remember having 6 Skunk11 plants in one pot 60cm long and they all grew 2m tall and gave plentiful yield.the thing with bottles is I need over 60 of them and don't want to spend a penny on them.already checked local dump but they press bottles straight away and going around estates to get bottles from garbage...well..am no so desperate
Here's some pix of Trainwreck 10 days old and that unfortunate experiment with seeds
Ileso,thank you once more.
let it grow

try going to a few restaurants or cafés where they sell plastic bottled water, festivals somewhere where large groups of people gather and drink lots of water.. a gym for example... just aske them and tell em your an artist and are working on an instalation about society and its plastic junk world...
60 bottles arent that many bottles you know

you have no idea what it took to track down this thread...
but here, i found a few pics on the net of water bottle grows.
what i was looking for was a post somewhere where i saw a guy that grew out clones in plastic bottles in a SOG system. it was a comercial grow, and a seasoned grower with excelent results...
(i think i should start collecting this stuff as i find it rather than having to look for it all again, cause i usually find these juicy titbits by accident.
this particular grow im talking about is marvelous.. ill keep looking)
anyway these pics are from another site

Ileso, thank you very very much for these posts.fantastic idea with bottles, really like it.don't roots push through the top of the bottle when it's upside down? I'm still collecting mine,I'm to get more tomorrow or at least I was promised so.Didn't have much luck yesterday, the weather was miserable and pubs got filled pretty quickly so didn't want to bother barmen.they were busy as they always are in this country.
Ileso,I'm really grateful for your help.Thank you once more and I'll post you tomorrow with the results of my quest for bottles
all the best my Friend.

actually yes they do. depends how deep you make the vases, but yes they will eventually push out the top (bottom). what i have foud is that this isnt a problem as long as the water doesnt stagnate there full of nutes leached from the soil.
you will end up with quite a few root in the reservoir. but as long as the soil isnt soggy and is well aerated, they will pick up oxigen through the soil. i generally bottom feed so as not to leach the soil.
another thing is not to forget to cover the sides of the vases so no light goes in. but you wont have this problem because they will be so packed together. so youll be saved some work and $ for the aluninium foil. i personally dont use anything cause i eventually repot them in a traditional vase (i posted som photos today on my thread for you to see). im still looking for that post on the internet, it was really good actually.
another thing i want to add. i believe for a SOG that clones would be better cause they flower straight away rather than grow and branch before maturity... but theres only one way to find out... plus your crowding will depend on the ratio of males you get
there was something else but i was sidetracked and have forgotten now...
ah yes.. because there are going to be so many vases how are you figuring on watering? drip irigation?.. imagine what they will be like taller all packed together.. how will you rech the furthest ones? you could take em out and put them back (probably best too to bottom feed, and with this system you really wont need to water all that much anyway if you can get a nice tight fit on the bottles) ... dont forget this when planning.
ok, just one more small point, i know you are counting on what people will give you, but in the future if you use this method for seedlings and clones before repotting them choose the bottles that the plants will easily slide out of because some bottles are all curvy like, and it gets a bit messy when you have to cut up a bottle to get the girls out and then the bottle cant be re-used.
peace
happy growing
ILESO
ps. i put some absorbent paper or gauze in the bottom to keep the dirt out of the reservoir, but something the roots can push through to the water. it helps as a wick system when the water level is low
the snug fit is very important so that no water evaporates out the holes. the only way you want water to evaporate if at all is through the soil. this will reduce your waterings
