Rep Power: 295 | | Winter 08 Growing Project
Howdy all well it is getting to that cold and dark season… So let us grow some killer buds!
I’ve been veggin these for about 4 weeks. Gnats have been a problem…thought I was clear of them when I transplanted and watered…but since the watering…they have been invaded again. So I’m just giving “sips” of distilled water/Superthrive the past 3 days…pretty dry they are. I even got the gnats in the perlite! In the trial run hempy grow! BB_WW_4wks.jpg
I’m going to be doing some filter cleaning/maintaince this weekend. Gets some fresh air flowing through the flower cab. Get it buttoned up so the gnats can’t get in.
Anywho…the WW is on the right, they both look different to one another. BB is on the left, they look about the same to me. Except the tall one in front, which seems to be showing me male pre-flowers, very small, I can see them with my eye but better with a mag glass. I won’t mind a male companion for 3 girls (hopefully). I think I would be happy for just one girl too. Don’t even want to think about the last option. I’m thinking another week or so of veggin. This is a first from me on these strains. From what I’ve read…they are popular!
The little hempy trial is just some bagseed…they are popping. I’ve been shopping for nutes and it is making my head spin. If anyone wants to drop a recommendation for a cheap simple product…I would be grateful. I’m looking to get into hydro, maybe for my new cab design? Right now, I just want to get the feel for the hydro.
I think that is it for now…off to smoke a fatty
Happy Growing!
Peace.

Hey meigs how you doing.if you want to grow in hydro I would be gald to help you along. To start hydro for the first time, I would say do DWC bucket and you will learn what's going on in hydro. It's about the easyest for a beginning in hydro. All that is needed is 1-5gal bucket,1-airstone and pump and a net pot with hydroton. You have the nutr. You will need a TDS & PH pen or meter so you can keep the PH stable and the{TDS} nutr strenght at the right levels. Hydro is not hard to do ,but it can turn south on you quick if you dont know what's going on.if you do do hydro I will help you with what you need to do and learn,if you want. Peace

Peace | Good...well I don't think me and a bucket of water would get along very in my facility. And I'm on a super low budget. I do plan to aquire these things in time. So I was thinking of the hempy bucket at Hempy Bucket Method for me right now. Ive seen some success from another site. I'm just not real clear on the nutes shopping? Will the hydroton "wick" like perlite? I'm having a heck of a time finding perlite. I need to learn to stock-up on supplies in the spring rush.
Thanks!
Peace.

i notice alot of us newbies to indoor have plants that are more or less the same age... that means we all harvest together
we could have a huge harvest festival worth posting about... maybe we could do a GP harvest competition for the newbies?

Hey we can start a thread and do it just for fun, miegs, and ileso and saturnlily and I. And anyone that has new babeis now. I know mine will be the longest most likely as I have to wait till I harvest the ones flowering now, before setting my babies to bloom. I
I am going in now to start it, so if you want to be part of it, just add your bit. We can have links to each of our journals, for details and just show shots of them at the same age. And help each other! I will come back and post a link.
Peace

Hey Meigs,The hydroton holds some moisture, but I dont think it wicks like perlite.Homedepot has perlite in large bags{2or 4 Cubic foot Bags} for around $10.00 bucks. But you will have perlite forever with a bag like that.Besure what ever brand perlite you buy it dosent have nutr added in it.Some of the perlite that's sold in stores ,like MG,schultz, and a couple more have nutr added to them.If it says on the bag it will feed up to 3-months it has nutr in it.How are you testing the PH of your water&nutr.I use GH-3 part flora series. It cheaper and I can mix it to what cycle the plants are in.It's easy to use and you can measure it with a teaspoon.Yes cut the bottle dose down to 1/4 to start and build up as they grow. The hemp buckets I see and know poeple that use them say to put 1-part vermiculite,2-parts perlite mix in the container.I do know that perlite will wick water.I know what you mean on a budget.I'am fighting to keep work till the first of the year here.best luck on your search for perlite.Peace

Many thanks
I got lucky and fell into grocery store building a couple of years ago, so we are good on work flow...just the employer putting us in our place by saying "I can pick up the phone and replace you" ...which leads me to pulling 12 hrs tonight.
I found a small stash of perlite, I need to get more and vermiculite. But yea I don't want a huge bag of it...
Thanks again!
Peace.

Rep Power: 295 | | Let’s talk grow Cabinets.
Well I’ve been a finish carpenter for 15 yrs and I am somewhat embarrassed of my grow cab. But, I live in an apartment, so I can’t fire up a saw or a nail gun…that might attract some attention. It’s almost a year old and has been remodeled a couple of times. Its 18” deep 34” wide 5’ tall. On casters. One big door on a piano hinge. Made out of a hard plastic like coated pressboard, very heavy. I have a low profile cheap air filter unit ducted in with cardboard and tape at the bottom back. Hot air goes out the upper left. Up by the light, the cab had a 6’opening from the top of the cab down to the top of the backing, the whole width of the cab. Took plastic and bent it around it and made a “manifold” of sorts that ideally helps gather the heat and I push it out with a fan, plus the air blowing in. The problem is, of course, that 400 HPS creates some heat. Not a huge issue till the plants get up there. So I got some Plexiglas, but I’m going to have to cut the flange to the light and screw it back together, lapping the pieces thus pushing the up higher to clear the Plexiglas that I want to attach to the bottom of the reflector. That flange is about 14 gauge steel, I’m going to try and cut it with snips, since I can’t fire up the grinder. Maybe drill a line of holes and snip it. Once I get the plexi in…going to try to find some computer fans to run with batteries and mount them on the door side of the reflector, to blow air to the back, across the bulb to be exhaust
Then this little air filter I found…I can make a replica replacement filter…filled with activated carbon…to take that lovely smell out of the air. And I have another, bigger, one in the room with the cab that does not run all the time.
I need to do these things soon but for the long term, this is just a prototype grow cab, there is a new grow cab in my future for sure.
Happy Growing!
Peace.

Hi, everyone! It’s the weekend time for some gardening…
Here are my experimental hempy grow… Hempy.jpg
Not growing very fast. At least they don’t think they are moving to quick. They are getting 16 hour days and plan to put them in flower mode very early. Going to order them some food this weekend.
The WW and BB have been on a 12.5 hour daylight for almost 5 days. Yes! Two WW girls. The BB is still up in the air. I bet the tallest is a male, but I’m waiting until positive ID, the smaller has pointy calyxes. I really would like to have a girl BB…
The WW is the left 2 BB the right 2. WW_BB_5wks.jpg
It has been about two weeks, time to transplant the WW girls.
I love it when they pop out of the pot. WWTrans.jpg
I’m thinking I really like this Shultz organic soil, low NPK. They try to fool me at the store they had a Shultz soil with a 3 month feeding window with composted chicken litter. I wasn’t biting on that at all. I have been bitten by the time release soil before. Burn you up! The organic version has composted turkey litter. Then as I was checking out the casher said she loved the organic Shultz and that the other burned her flowers to pieces. I noticed in the fine print they have different mixes for a small number of different locations, the organic version.
Well girls and guys…back to the flower box for you. Get busy! Here is your food…1 tablespoon of Indonesian bat guano, half a teaspoon molasses, and a teaspoon of a liquid concentrate 4-12-4 (much weaker than prescribed) to 1 gallon of distilled water…shaken not stirred. 5DayFlower.jpg
Happy Growing! Everyone!
Peace.

REALLY nice Miegs!
I saw that vid you have the link to a while back and want to look into adding a couple to my grow, on the walls for flowering or maybe hang from the cieling, not sure yet. Hey, it will be interesting to see the difference if there is any. Are you trying this yet or what else have you learned about the UVB light addition? I was going to go to a local speciallty pet aqua store and check them out.
Let me know what ya think, sweetie.

I was hoping someone would throw this out there. Yes, the little bluish light in the lower left of the last pic is a light from a aquarium, the light fixture that sets on top of the tank. The bulb it self has limited info on it...the 2' T-8's on the sides are from wally world $10. The bulbs say 7800 color temp. They look similiar to the aquarium light when on...I'm not sure if they are beaming any UVB...they are of similiar spectrum. I still need to probably reasearch this. I should have read the package a little closer...but thy really didn't have much verbage on them. It stated they were "Grow Lights". I know Lowes and them sell the aquarium bulbs for fixtures, I plan to put more in my new grow cab down the road.
I'm not sure how much they increase THC...but they seem to really help dense up the buds, specially down low, and gave them a little extra frost.
I've been using the one little one since I asked the question in that thread. I would try it If I were you. They definitly won't hurt.
I would love to hear anyone else's experience with them!
Peace. Quote:
