I am about three weeks from harvest and I am very excited. I have been re-reading FAQ and stickys on harvesting, drying and curing. This brings me to my questions:
  • Do you cut your plant and hang the whole thing upside down or do you groom the fan leaves and cut off stem and hand the bud only? The prevailing logic for hanging the whole plant is to get a slower dry thus avoiding harsh taste. The application of my product will be for patients who will not smoke but will vaporize or cook with it. I would like to keep some for personal use and I am willing to do what is necessary for the best smoke possible. I guess I am looking to produce a product that it doesn’t matter how you consume it, it will still kick you ass.
  • How long do you flush before harvest? I saw a video that talked about flushing for 21 days before harvest. A comment like “new studies have shown…” worry me. I want the best science but I also want that science vetted by the best practitioners. Does 21 days make sense??? I’m using Greenlightnin for nutes and until someone makes the case otherwise I flushing once I see cloudy trichs and will flush for 10 days then harvest.
  • Those of you who pass your crop on to others in need, do you cure before you do so? If so how long? When I buy I ask “how long has this been cured?” I usually smoke a small amount and cure the rest in a jar.
I have a tendency to turn something very straight forward into something difficult by over-thinking it. So I am polling growers to find “best practices”. Any thoughts???

Greetings talisman,

I have never used a vaporizer, but a slow dry and cure will definitely improve the taste and reduce the harshness. Personally, I trim the bud @ harvest, let it dry a few days and into the jars it goes.

It would seem to me that 21 days is an awfully long time to flush. In my experience, about a week to 10 days works quite well.

Pappy

I have seen weed dried both ways Tal, taken off the plant and hung, and the whole thing hung. I beleive that cutting the buds off and hanging, does a more even job, as you can judge better how dry they are and if they are even, like each is the same size they should dry uniformly . That is what you want. I have also seen a drying box in the DIY section. One that toke made. Maybe look it up. I think ISO made one too. Good luck sweetie.

Default A decent harvest.

Well I haven't visited in a while. Had some travel for work but not before harvesting my bud. 3 plants gave a total of 466 grams of awsome bud. I kept the keif for other use.

It's good to be back. I'm already planning my next grow.
