Rep Power: 35 | | Summer 2009 - And so it begins...DWC...Yeah you know me
Welcome...come one, come all. You are about to witness the trials and tribulations of my 1st DWC, cabinet grow. Some of you have had the pleasure of meeting me already. For those who haven't, take a stroll over to Soil grower turned Hydro
Well, let it begin... The Build
The cabinet I am using was purchased from the local Home Depot store. Looking for a white melamine cabinet, I had to settle for a faux wood grain. In an attempt to get some light reflecting, I used aluminum tape to line the cabinet. Sweet. Due to the dimensions of the cabinet, I was forced to do some research, and came to the conclusion...this grow would be...wait for it...SCROG. And so it would be. The Land of SCROG.
Having grown once before from start to finish with 300W of HPS, I believed it was time to try something different. No, we will not do away with the HPS, but we will be adding 336W of CFL. Being a true DIY type of individual, I decided I should make things more difficult on myself. My first light fixture failed miserably. Having constructed it out of PVC, the heat given off by the lights caused it to droop. To the point where it looked like a fine piece of art. Take 2. Here is the result of my labours today.

Having found a great link on How To Build A Cheap DWC, I decided to forge ahead. It seemed simple enough. The only problem was the drain. It didn't turn out the way I had hoped. So I have decided to plug it up and utilize my trusty Shop-Vac. These things are the tits. When my basement flooded, guess who was there to bail me out a 2 in the morning? You guessed it, Shop-Vac. Actually, it is a Rigid, but they are all the same. From the pitures you can I decided to take my time and make the aire lines nice and neat. Ty-raps and sticky backs! A sparkies good friend. As for the top, I also applied my trusty aluminium tape to help with some reflection. Mmmm...shiny!
Next, I have cut 3 - 2.5" holes in the bottom of the cabinet for a passive intake. I may add another 3 over the course of the next few days to increase the intake. The pictures will show that I am using 5 computer fans for active exhaust. I have these located near the top. All wires are Type SOW. Used in the electrical industry for hanging fixtures. Great for hard usage. You may think to yourself, what's that funky lookin thing near the fans. Ah, yes. This is my 120V terminal. I can add and delete devices at any given moment. I will post some updates when it is finished. I usually mount these terminal blocks on a DIN rail. I can add and delete as many terminal blocks that will fit on any given size of rail.

So the next few days will be filled with finshing the cabinet. This will include:
1) Mounting the DIN rail and terminal blocks for the 120V power.
2) Connecting the air pump and runnind the power lines
3) Covering the intake and exhaust to prevent light from entering the cabinet during the DARK period
4) Installing my screen for the Land Of SCROG
5) Disinfecting and sanitizing the whole works.
Pictures to follow....and then... GERMINATION! - NL#5
