Also paint is very cheap. Bright white, matte finish celing paint is about 12 bucks for a gallon. That will paint a lot of totes, more than 12 bucks worth of mylar.

Arrow Shinethrough...

I agree with all three of you. I think it's too late for this grow, but I may try that for the next. Here is the only issue I have with the white paint: Underneath everything is a layer of tin-foil which I later covered over with the emergency blanket for greater reflection. With the tinfoil, emergency blanket and silver tape, the grow box doesn't glow. In other words, no light can be seen from the outside. These rubbermaid tubs I bought consist of an extremely thin layer of molded plastic. I'd bet my bottom dollar that white paint would not stop the "shine-through" affect. This being a stealth project, shine-through is an important issue. Any thoughts on this?

One thing all you tough guy handy men have failed to mention, especially on that surface, is that you HAVE to prime it. You should get a hi adhesion primer and cover the inside of that sucker with that first. THEN paint it. Otherwise it will be a real mess. And you can get a pint of primer and a pint of paint. That shouldn't be anymore than 20 bucks for both. Leave all the other stuff underneath and it will not glow, but the white flat paint will give you the best finish.

Peace

If you are worried about stealth I would do it this way. Combine the techniques that angel talked about with your own. You will need one extra Rubbermaid container.

So from outside 2 inside u will have Rubbermaid + tinfoil + Rubbermaid + primer / paint.

1. Flip the Rubbermaid upside down and cover it with tinfoil.
2. Place the other Rubbermaid over top of this one to make a tinfoil sandwich Rubbermaid + tinfoil + Rubbermaid.
3. Prime and paint the inside of the rubbermaid as per jangle's instructions, *note the primeing warnings*
4. Done

I suspect once you follow jangel's directions you will not need the tin foil. Hmm, Do you need the tinfoil jangel?

cheers,
R

PS. If I were to put tinfoil onto the Rubbermaid I would try contact cement, sprayed on both sides (Rubbermaid and tinfoil). The downside is when the contact cement sides stick they are a bugger to move ... apply very carefully.

AND NO FREAKIN' TINFOIL! LOL!

sorry guys, not having a good time of it right now. A member of my family is in the last stages of prostate cancer. It is very hard to deal with so if I am a bit of a grump, bear with me.

Love you all, but don't use tinfoil please, unless you are roasting something....like me.

Peace

Thumbs up

Thanks guys and gals... Very Helpful advice. It's really too late to tear apart my present grow box and paint it, but I will definitely do so for my next grow. If I can find some Mylar, I may add that to the insides however. Thanks for all your help. I'll keep this journal updated so ya'll can coach me along. I need all the help I can get...

The three plants that are in the in the long cylinders all look dark green and very healthy. One (the biggest) is even emitting a strong sensimillia smell.
