Rep Power: 54 | | Old Sarge and Radio Jock 420's first joint grow
Well ok guys and gals, we finally got our act together and are going to share our little grow with you all. By the way, RJ420 is my son, guess it's a family thing .
After drooling over the pics of all the great bud here on GP we decided that in the long run we too could grow some, have a great time and get some quality smoke.
We ordered our seeds from Nirvana and germinated them on Nov 25, 08. There were 3 fem'ed Pure Power Plants, 4 White Widow, 4 Jock Horror and one bag seed that was supposed to be CA Big Bud.
We had 100 percent germ rate from the Nirvana seeds, however one of the Jock Horror's just didn't make it. Disappeared actually.
Our first mistake was to go off on our own and build a great soil. We did, but it was not something to start seedlings in. In fact we wasted 2 weeks fooling around with the soil trying to raise the PH enough for the little one's to accept it. We saw that re-potting them was probably the only thing that was going to save them. They were in sad shape folks!! Had we of taken advantage of the great info here we could have saved a lot of hassle.
We purchased some miracle grow from the local Lowe's and moved the sick, sick plants into it. The next morning there was improvement. Now it is one week later and you guys be the judge. We saved every one of them, but do any of ya think that it is going to stunt them or anything?
We will try to keep the pic's updated and hope you get some of the joy out of this little garden that we are.
We have a home-made Veg chamber with a 2 foot 4 lamp T5 system that seems to provide plenty of light for the little girls. We coated the interior with mylar and are now 18 on 6 off with the light.
We have a DR 120 grow room 4x4x8 with a 600 watt HPS for flowering and intend to veg 3 more weeks and then into the grow room for 12/12.
Pic1 is the Fem. PPP, Pic2 Jock Horror, Pic3 White Widow, Pic 4 BigBud (Bagseed)
Any advise or comments are welcomed. Thanks for making us feel welcome here.

Hey mr Old Sarge your pics did not post. Did you use the "attach" clip in the message menu? I can't copy and paste to here myself. If you can't make it work I will message someone.

I dont see any pics but it sounds like you saved them! I would recomend using something instead of MG soil. It has too much of the wrong kind of fertilizers and causes deficencys later on down the line. Fox Farms Ocean Forest is very good soil. If you need a good soil just to start them in before moving to your own mix the OF is perfect. If you have to use tap water like I do add pond water detox and adjust the ph to 6.0 for soil. Dont overfert it causes deficecys. I use 50% nutes till late flower and dont overwater it kills the roots. Remember to flush its important! Good Luck and have fun its not that hard to produce quality bud. Those are all good strains you picked so you got a good start! | | The Following User Says Thank You to OG KUSHMAN For This Useful Post: | |

Rep Power: 313 | | I see them...they look good! If its the organic MG soil...I think your OK. But I think I seen the little fert balls in the soil. If its time release. its not good down the road at all...
Peace.

Thanks for your comments. I hope the pics are up now, if not let me know and I'll try again. We are aware of the MG limitations, but at that point it was hey, if we don't get these babies into something else they are going to die. The MG was any port in a storm at that time. We will not flower in MG, the next repot will be in Fox Farm's Ocean Forrest. We are just happy they look as good as they do now.

Are you dead set on changing soils? There is absolutely nothing wrong with the MG soil. Just a thought. Just tell me to shut up. LOL

They Look good guys! No wb, don't shut up. if it has worked for you, then say so, but be aware and know what to look for guys, in case they do start looking sick. Vid's soil ...and try to make up this for soil. It works very well and people have had great results with it.
Peace

Hey Old, good luck with your grow. Looks good thus far. You can find a lot of help here if you have questions. Some folks spend a ton-o-time here offering advice to the rest of us who drop in and try to offer something back in return. Even if only a wise-crack remark. ;)

We are new to this, well it has been many, many years for me, as for RJ420 this is his second. He has a little grow of his own that's pretty awesome. Your input is welcome, and no I am not dead set on anything. I am just keeping a close eye on them, and as long as they are happy, so am I.

Welcome to GP there Ol' Sarge, I'm a Hydro-farmer myself, and havent chimed in cause all the soil types have been tag-teaming the hell outta ya. Figured I'd find a lull in the action and say hello and welcome. The Pics look real good tho, and with the info you've been getting, I'm sure it'll only get better Luck with that grow from Flamingohippie and myself.

As my Pops(OldSarge) mentioned I do have my own small grow in progress. I started with, well, some plain ole bag seed. I knew we were getting ready to start this grow and wanted to kinda be a cpl steps ahead, so I germed me some seeds and got to work. I bought 3 42w CFL's and vegged them for 4 weeks. I started with 3 plants but 1 just had a bad attitude about living, plus I was running out of space, so I canned it. I used MG soil for vegging then right before 12/12 I planted in mine and OldSarge's soil. They are in 3gal pots and are 3 1/2 weeks into flower under 2 150w HPS. I have followed much of the advice I've read here plus it seems I may have an aptitude for this . I am pleased w/ how they have turned out so far. Any comments or questions are welcome.

The MG soil seemed to work out O.k w/ vegging but I have read enough here that I will use FFOF in the future. The soil we have now started as basic soil to which we added a bag of MG Organic(Prob a bad idea) perlite, worm castings, peat moss, and Bone meal. The Ph was way too low and we had some probs with our young seedlings. We have since bought a Ph meter and tonight I will try to Ph it w/ lime or may still just use the FFOF.

MG Organic isnt actually that bad to have a bit in your soil mix (I put some in mine). watch out for large amounts of worm castings and/or bone meal too, they can confuse or burn plants in flower.

We over did it. We just wanted to show our babies how much we loved them . We went a little to heavy on the organics, We added an 8Q bag of MG Organic, a 12lb bag of soil less mix loaded w/ Worm Castings, Perlite, Peat and God only knows what else, then added Bone Meal to each pot as we potted, all that was added to a 40lb bag of Basic soil. They sprouted fine but we quickly noticed that all was not well, ie. Slow growth, Twisted and brown leaves, just no vigor at all. We had some ph strips and tested the runoff...It wouldn't even show a reading above 5 so we repotted them into the MG last week and they are very much alive and thriving now. We will change soils on our next repotting. We almost loved them to death |

looks good guys .the slow release mg is great for out door grows that u cant visit reg.exp with the water retaining pelets. the problem with it really is later on in the grow u have no idea how much fert is getting to plants and whats left in the soil unless u have a ec meter and then u can flush water though and check that way. best of luck guys. oh ya its nice to see father and son with a project to work on and talk about, as lots of father sons have not much in common.
