Hey again Gonetripping. I understand what you are saying about pruning but I have also read to the contrary. The plant natually has a large colla. This is the lead bud site. If you can get the plant to add new bud sites by getting the side branches as high as the main one then you will have big buds without stressing the plant and it will fill in the way mother nature intended it to. I just want to see what my plants do naturally without too much set back now in the flower. Buds are already forming so I want it to keep going. I have taken many clones from lower branches to deter growth there, and will thin this more as I plant them for more clones. maybe. don't want to worry about an army growing inside by the fall. I just want to flower some inside and keep some mothers going to carry them all on. I have also heard over and over to leave the growth on the plant, it is the food factory. I also know in years gone by when I prunned too much the plant stopped growing. So I will let the plants tell me. And they will!

- Transplanting - have you ever considering 'shaving' the roots when you transplant? This is a very new technique to me - again, it's just what I've read in forums/documents - but shaving the root ball (we're talking 1/8inch or less) appears to be good to stimulate new root growth (similiar to how LST, supercropping or 'twisting' stems results in hulked up stems)

-hey gonetripping shaving the root ball does help with root growth but at what cost? This method of shaving will stress the plants slowing vegative growth because the plants use up too much energy trying to repair the damaged roots, this method does however work well for re-vegging,and when growing the way jangel does its a waste of her time solely because she re-pots to pots much larger than the previous pots witch leaves tons of room for root growth with out doing anything but good for the plants.

sorry jangel for going on in your journal i just could,nt help myself

looking good i cant wait yo see how much better you outdoor crop looks compared to mine i,ll definitely learn a thing or to from you. I look forward to coming to you for advice over the next 3 months

Hey Kenn feel free! Sharing knowledge is sharing no matter where! I don't mind at all. And don't cut yourself short sweetie. You know a lot about a lot. You will do fine. I am flattered to here your kind words. Thank you. I just hope I will live up to your props! I think I will do an exclusively outdoor thread as well so it won't get lost in this one. It could help more people then, at this time of year. Just need the time to do it! LOL!

You are right about the shaving roots. It slows the plants down for weeks sometimes. Some plants cannot take the stress either and die. It shocks them in a major way. They then just concentrate their energy on making new roots, not developing buds, which is what I want mine to do now. It is fine for indoors, where you have no time crunch, but with seasons marching on you want BUDS not roots when you plant outside. And one thing you MUST remember: Healthy roots and good growth makes for a healthy plant and good bud. The two correlate very closely. Which is why I change pots so often. Sometimes I only get a couple of weeks out of one pot, sometimes not even that. I have one pair of plants I repotted last week and there are roots through the bottom again. Need a big pot or to go outside. It also indicates how healthy your soil is and the plant. No root growth in my mind means sick soil or at least something they do not like.

Hope that answers your question, gonetripping! Kinda busy right now so I don't always have the time to answer them all. I will get to it though!

Hey Kenn, please feel free to chime in here. Anytime Buddy! This is all about sharing and helping each other and you have helped me ! and I am sure you will again!

Peace!

gonetripping

LST'ing - I remember reading a post once (could PM you link if I can find it) where 1/2inch screws were put into pots at 12 o'clock positions, 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc all the way around (so you end up with 12 short screws in a clock face layout, can tape to secure) ... when doing this (and any other LST technique) always tie off the stem first - to do this, tie the bottom of the stem to the 6 o'clock screw (this is done to anchor the stem and remove the stress placed on the roots to hold the plant in place), the LST the plant into the 12 o'clock position. After waiting (a day ot two), add a tie down to the 3 o'clock position - and wait ... repeat at 6 and 9 and then jump to 1 o'clock position after proceed to 4-7-10 to create an outter circle around the 12-3-6-9 ring - jump to 2 o'clock and the final ring follows 5-8-11 ... you can create as tight of a spiral as your abilities allow - the post that I read this in they had done some amazing work --- remember: tie off the stem first to reduce stress!

Hi gonetripping. Yes, I am aware of the traditional way of LST'ing. Most people on this site are not nesacarily into Hi tech things, (not that it is really hi tech, but it is harder to do) and many just want to grow their pot with the minnimum of fuss. IF you can LST using things you already have around and it works, maybe not in the traditional around the clock way,(although it does not show it clearly but I did do "the clock" to LST my plants) BUT it works! then Aunty Grace with glacoma is going to do that rather than the way that means you have to drill holes, and do things in a formal way. That is all I am trying to show, that you don't have to do it the hard way and just have to think outside the box and get the same results. With commen items it makes it easy for anyone to do and get results. You see? I have read probably as much or more than you have on many sites. Many of these techniques are popular gardening techniques that have been around for years, just newly used for pot. Things that are new "ideas" are just renovated for a different use. For our pot! So keep learning and reading. I have gardened since I was a kid. I grew up with Nursery stock and plants and propagation. From a small child. I am 53 now so I have gained a lot of knowledge in doing this, and done organic gardening since I was in my teens (organic, double dug "french" beds if you know what that is) So it is all learning and interelated. You get to "feel" your plants. You can tell after a while with growies, no matter what they are what the problem is. Knowledge is a good start but don't over do things. If you are a beginner, wait till you have a harvest under your belt before you do some of these advanced techniques and know about the plants. Otherwise you could do something in your enthusiasm that will hurt them. They are babies, and pot is a unique plant, very sensitive to many things. It can hermie on you from rough treatment. So wait my friend till you understand the plant well before forcing things on it that are hard for the plant to deal with.

JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION, my friend.

And good luck with your babies. Love to see you start a journal. I would like to see what you have growing!

Hey Jangel - the weather this weekend was awesome ... didn't it feel a little overdue? Thanks for such a detailed response, I appreciate the feedback. I've enjoyed reading your posts and value your responses to the thoughts that came to mind while I was reading. I don't want to belabour the point - but I wasn't trying to 'tell' you anything ... I was already felt like I'd made a long post and was trying to keep it as brief as possible while still being descriptive enough to provide something for you to give me feedback on. BTW - if questions like this should not posted in someone's grow journal - my apologies ... I realized today while responding that it may not be the best place to post those questions.

*blush* my little operation isn't really anything to 'journalize' ...

kennkenniff - thanks for the info, like Jangel said - anything you (or anyone) have to contribute is welcome.

LOL! Hey mysmokie! Thanks for the props! We like it a lot! Good deal on the tractor too, and of course you can be a member! ANYTIME!!!!!!!!! LOL! not tooo bad a drive up from Utah! As far as heaven, lord, I hope I don't have to work as hard in Heaven! It is draining, as my man can't do it yet and I am used to doing it anyway, but it is hard work. It is okay though, I love it, and I am already brown as a berry! Right now I dig and he cuts the grass, till he gets the all clear, but being a red head he cannot be outside all the time, gets sun stroke easily too. Last week we had frost, this week up to 100f weather! WTF! where the h did spring go? Having tornadoe warnings too, which scares the you know out of me. Oh well! what will be will be, not much we can do about it.

The first lot are going into the ground today, if it does not thunder storm here. Better move!

Gonetripping. That is okay. I hope I answered your questions, and don't sweat the small stuff. maybe if you have these kinds of q's next time try a Private message as some people don't like it. I don't mind, it is all learning. That is what this place is about. No worries mate!

Hey, I hate to be rude but are you a guy or a girl? Just curious.

OH and don't cut yourself short. One plant is all you need to start a journal. It is about sharing and learning. Not about how good you are, so please post either a journal or just a thread if you have questions on your plants in the newcomers section. We are here to help you, and you should let us by showing us what you are doing. I am interested in your plants so please post pics.

Take care,
