This is my T-5 set with seedlings and a few clones given to me by a dear friend. The clones are Jack the Ripper and snow dog 1 and 2. Yippeee!

As well I have my seedlings for my hemp oil breeding project under this light. On top of the t-5 lights I have my sugar leaves drying, wrapped in screen fabric on the front of a fan...those round covers are perfect for drying as they let the air through the bottom so the leaves get dried evenly.

Hey Folks! The last couple of days I have been busy re-arranging my grow room. It seems I have FINALLY had some success killing off my infestation of fungus gnats. Over the last while I have been over run with them. I pulled out all the stops and did whatever I could to kill them or I was going to close down my complete grow for a while to get these things GONE! This is what worked for me:

All of this was added to each GALLON of Reverse Osmosis water every watering.

2 tablespoons of Vectobac Vectobac PDF file

2 teaspoons SM-90 SM-90

2 teaspoons Neem Oil

As well I had ribbons of fly paper everywhere.

One thing I found out from observing these little buggers.

ANY open wet soil is an attractant. They also used the drainage holes of the pots. If you sit and watch any thing that is affecting your crop long enough, you can usually come to some conclusion on how to confound it. Let us hope we are wiser than some damn bugs. I had tried cinnamon. Every plant was covered with it. Yes, it works to repel a few of them, for an initial first few seen. BUT what I found is that over time, it gets wet, rots and has no affect. It also will change the ph of your soil. Due to the number of plants I had, at different stages, from flowering plants, to vegging clones, to seedlings and new clones with soft new roots, it did not work consistently enough for me. I also found that rooting clones in peat pellets attracted the gnats to them. I think that peat moss is of a sort of fiber that they like. It is consistently wet, in order for the clones to root. It is made of the roots and plant, all in one. I found it was a breeding ground. Out of 18 clones I had only 2 survive. Now I am using perlite to root clones, and they seem to be fine...(I just keep my fingers crossed!)

In my reading on these damn things I have read many suggestions to cover the soil with sand. I had no sand, and couldn't seem to find any here that was sharp. I also tried diatomaceous earth, but found once this got wet, it too was of little use. Now I have all of my plants top soil covered with perlite. About a half to an inch deep. This prevents the adults from being able to get to the soil to lay their eggs.

I am sure that the combination of all three things worked. The vectobac to kill the larvae, the neem oil as well, to repel them, and the sm-90 to build new roots and help the plant overcome the affects of the gnats. With the perlite on top, and fresh fly paper hung, I have caught in the last 2 days maybe 4 to 6 per room. If it was practical, I would also bury the pots in the perlite as well, to keep them from being able to get to the drainage holes of the plants. For my size of a grow though, it is not practical and I think they are pretty much gone anyway. I will continue with my treatment until such time I see absolutely none of them.

I had so many the fly paper was literally covered with them, from top to bottom. Very discouraging. Here in Canada we cannot get a number of things to fight these. Such as Gnatoral. And Mosquito Dunks. I believe the Vectobac is a similar product though. But this is only available at my hydro store. I have not seen it anywhere else.

Now to the plants! All but two of my flowering plants have been harvested, and either discarded or put back into veg. The 16 clones I had under my big t8 flouresents have been repotted and moved into flower. I was quite pleased with my budsicles. All of this was delayed from my perpetual plan as I had to bring plants inside from the back of our barn that where not quite finished yet. These had been fertilized by one male, a cross I had made, sweet herb, blueberry and ambrosia cross. The harvested buds from this cross where soooooo sweet, soooo sticky, smelled like capacino with an overlay of vanilla and a hint of berry. Very fruity and just soooo nice! I am very pleased with it. I have crossed this male with Kish (shiskaberry) and back to Ambrosia as well as back to Blueberry. We will see how these seeds come out. Nice fat, black seeds.

They will dry for a few months, then I will germinate them and see what we have. Also, I had at least 4 harvests from the larger plants in my flower room. I cut the top most buds, the biggest, ripest, and left the rest to ripen, as I had others put in at different stages. All the small buds kept growing, and again, as they rippened, I cut them, then put them back to flower. Of course the last buds where not the large size of the first colas but they where every bit as good, and sweet. Not popcorn buds at all for the most part. I bet I increased my yeild by at least 100%. To me it was worth doing. Here are the last couple I cut.

And some harvest shots for you...this year was a bad year. If I had not kept my inside flower room going I would of really been unhappy. I would say the total yeild was down 50% from last year. BUT what was harvested is EXCELLENT! Nice sticky buds, an improvement to my mind over last year's harvest. And I do not know why, but it seems stronger as well. No idea why.

Okay, here are the last couple of harvested plant shots and my harvest.

Here are some buds with seeds. I have dishes under them to catch anyseeds as they dry as they will fall. And some in bags first, I do this to hasten curing. Then I put them into jars. Also a shot of sugar leaves drying over my t-5. I wrap them in screen, on top of a front fan thing, then ontop of the light to dry. It works well!

Next on to my clones for the next round of flowering plants. These where so cramped in my vegging area! I had sixteen plants pressed together cheek to jowl. Like 16 people in a volkswagon! I have been sick so this held back the whole works as they should of been transplanted a couple of weeks ago....but they will be fine! Here they are before! During, and then finally, after. I also switched out the HPS bulb for MH for a couple of weeks, until I switch them into 12/12. For some reason my timer messed up so instead of 18/6 they where on 6/18...Stoner moment? No idea, but I have another time I will put in. They are fine though. Now they can stretch and get some healthy light happening and good growth. All are transplanted up and loving it so far. See also the perlite on top of all the dirt...no, maybe not, my battery died on my camera so that is not showing but I will show that once I get more batteries.

Here we go...see also the good roots on these now. Before they where thin and struggling, but with the sm-90 and everything else, they are nice, strong roots, with good mass, and thick! Not thin and fine.

With everything being held back a couple weeks, as well as the PH problems I had with the cinnamon and the damn fungas gnats my seedlings look like death warmed over. Just so anyone looking at this knows, we are not all perfect growers. My seedlings look awful. They are hungry, root bound, ph is off, they have struggled.

BUT REMEMBER! It is a WEED!

They are alive...including my hemp breeding project. I am shocked as well, as some of my seedlings have already shown sex. No idea why. Even my one sativa, Wild West, is a GIRL! My God Bud has not yet, nor has Good God, but the rest, I am very happy with them. The actual hemp plants I have are very strange plants. One showed male right out of the seed. Females showed very shortly after. Right now I have nothing showing flowering, so his pollen does not concern me for now. I plan to cut all his balls off, but in trying to keep them alive, I did not want to stress him too much. Now you see how very bad they look. So take heart all you new growers! They will survive and I am sure they will all be fine. I have replanted all of them. The Hemp project will stay under the t-5 light, and I was also gifted 6 clones which have been transplanted and are now under my t-8 light system, vegging happily.

Please don't cringe too badly at these...I know they look awful, but I think they will live now.

Now my vegging plants. Several of these are being revegged after being harvested. Some I got several crops off them. As well in here are the 2 clones I had that survived and the six that where a gift. I have 19 plants under this t-8 flourescent. Here you can see also the perlite on top.

I also have 24 clones rooting ala bozo style in perlite. I will have to wait until I get more batteries to show you these. They are all in regular 4 pacs you get plants from the nursery in, filled with perlite, and set in plastic see through lettuce containers on a cookie sheet with a heating pad under them. I have 2 containers with 12 each of clones in them, with about a 1/4 inch of water in the bottom, and lids on. These are under simple 12 inch florescent t-8 tubes. All alive and well.

Now, folks, here is a little experiment to show you how simple it can be to veg a plant. This is done by a friend of mine. Just one little plant, under 2 cfl's in a closet. Nothing special. One fan as well, but that is not in the pictures.

So don't ever think you HAVE to have everything to start. It is all possible, as long as you take care of the basics: Water, Air, and Light.

We tend so much to over complicate things, but just supplieing the basics works!

Remember! It is a WEED!

Thank you Cam! Didn't have the time to respond yesterday.

Just like life, I find growing evolves as we do. I have found it such a journey, growing our plants. I also find I think I am happier with a perpetual grow. There is usually something to do, and you don't get bored as easily. Not sure what that says about me, needing to be inspired all the time. I just go in there now, and stand and turn in circles...so nice to see such full stations! I can't expand it much more, my goodness! I only have one big light, and I keep cloning! But that is my own damn fault for not being organized, as I lost all my markers...how stupid is that?

Thanks for taking a look sweetie.

Peace

Thank you operator1. I am lucky our house had the built in cold room that we could adapt for our needs. It works really well. And if I choose to I can make it totally disappear as well. I have done it several times, for house evaluators and tv satalite installers. What they do not know will not hurt ME! My room is built under our concrete front porch so unless you know it is there, you can't tell at all.

Thanks for taking a look.

Peace
