hey Folks! Been a long time since I have journelled but as you know, we have been GROWING GreenPassion!
Overall, my inside plants have had a terrible winter after a round of fungas gnats destroyed my bonzais and many other plants. Compounded with this was my running lifestyle and dealing with being the new boss of GP. It all has a price and my plants where mine.
I have managed to keep 5 of my mothers alive. 2 tc clones, which are from a gift of two clones I recieved last spring. A Northern Flame, a Dutch treat X Northern Lights, and one more I can't think of the name of now....geez, stoner brain or no brain? Not sure. I did lose some genetics though, but what can you do?
Also, I have started seeds, (more on that later). I am going to try and keep these sorted but hey, this is one of my biggest short comings, figuring out how to keep things clearly marked and knowing definately what is what. Anyone having any good ideas on this, please chime in! I need help! I find it very difficult in a multi strain grow. The only ones I felt sure of last year where the Kish (shiskaberry) which smelled different. This is one of the forebearers of Blueberry and I must say, this and Ambrosia where my favorite from last year.
Here are some shots of my mums. I had them vegging under my T-5 lights but they had outgrown that space and so I have them all in my flower area under 24 hour light. At least these are for sure girls. They have been repotted and are doing MUCH better now, under the HPS.
Now here is a brief tutorial on cloning. I have tried bubble cloning, I have tried rapid rooters. Both work great. I am the one that failed on the bubble cloner though. I just could not watch it well enough and they died as it dried out. Just too much to do and not enough hours in the day!
BUT anyone that is good at caring for their plants (LOL! Like I thought I was before NOW!) it is a fast and easy way to go. Try it, you will like it.
Rapid rooters, also worked great. I found they dried out faster though, and had a higher ratio of mortality with them.
The one and simplist and cheapest way I have found, that works best for me, and this is key, WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU!!! is good old Peat Pellets and a heating pad inside a container. I use those see through plastic tubs you get lettuce in from the grocery store. I use them for all sorts of things in the grow room. Good to use for harvest, for draining plants, for cloning, lots and lots of things. And easy to store as you can stack them.
Here we go. Just a few to start, then more as I go.
What I have found about cloning:
1. Make sure everything is clean. Sterile is great. I wipe things down with alcohol. Blades, surfaces, everything. Then at least you start off clean.
2. WASH YOUR HANDS WELL AFTER DOING THIS: Many people forget to keep their hands as clean as their equipment. This is the easiest way to kill your clones. Wash them well and pay special attention to in between your fingers and under your rings.
3. Use a sharp thin blades. I use good old Wiltshire blades for old style razors. If you can find them, they are thin and easy to use, but watch you don't cut yourself as both sides are sharp.
4. Try and get a couple of nodes below the surface. cut on an angle to add more rooting surface. I find it helps them root better. I also remove part of the cambiam layer, the "bark" as this also helps with rooting.
and then just wait. Keep them under water if you precut them or take in advance of rooting. Some growers also soak them in rooting hormone for a bit.
The last picture is of my set up for clones. It is a cookie sheet placed on an old heating pad, and in a sealed container as I described above. Now I have it placed on the hotest part of the heating pad. So far they look nice and green. No leaves dieing off. I also trim the leaves so there is not as much leaf to support but they can still make food to make roots out of these leaves. I have them under a simple florescent tube light, just one tube, a T-8. This is very low light, but enough for the clones. As they grow roots, I move them up to my 2 flouro set, same size, T-8, and gradually over to the T-5, which they love.
And here we go with my seedlings. To test out the Seedling Sexing chart (below and also under "Graphs and charts") I have sexed all the seeds I started. I have also marked each seedling cup. I have started these in recycled 4 pack flower cello packs. I actually picked these out of my neighbor's recycler last spring. LOL! hey, cheap is good, free is better!
So here are some pics of how I germed them. And how, with wet paper towel. You do not want it sopping wet as the seeds could rot then. You want it well moistened, not dry wet, but not dripping either. Then I placed "female" on one side and "male" seeds on the other side. I then place them inside a ziploc bag to keep the moisture in, blew it up and sealed it, and placed it in a warm place, in the dark. Then I checked them every day. All but 3 germed well and those I planted. They will do one of two things, live or die.
So here is what I have started so far:
4 MTF 3 female 1 male
6 WW X Kush 3 f 3 m
5 Kish 3 f 2 m
4 Blueberry 4 f 0 m
2 Ambrosia 2 f 0 m
(I had 2 ambrosia that I thought where male as well, but they fell out! That really messed me up too! But I found them so might start later)
I know they are leggie. I want them to be as when I transplant them, I bury all the stem right up to the coliodals (water leaves or first round leaves) and they root right up to them. It increases the root zone and gives you healthier plants, in my opinion. They are under the T-5 light now and are loving it. I will replant them within the next day or so.
Also, do not feed seedlings until those first round leaves dry up and fall off. Then you are good to go.
Hey Jangel its me again i come in peace lol ive just germed 8 differant strains, and when i was soaking them i nearly got 8 glasses to soak them in, but then i seen an ice cube tray and just stuck sticky labels on it with the names, then i got my large sealer bags and just put four in each, and written the names on that aswell in the order they are in the bag, and now ive got plastic labels dug in the soil in each one. SO NOW I KNOW WHATS WHAT

I tried that last year. I found I messed up when transplanting the most. I would either lose the label, or misplace it, and get all confused.....Oh well. I will keep working on it.
Hi Jangel, like the song... Springtime is in the air. Lookin good in there. Best method I know of for tracking clones are those ****tail toothpicks that come in colors. Pick a color for each strain and keep a clipboard for reference. Works as well as anything I've seen. Good luck and leave the backdoor unlocked...

i've used that before. worked well. :-)
currently i dont have color toothpicks, so i put 2 toothpicks in the 2nd strain, 3 in the third (only have 3).

Thanks guys. I will check it out. I have been transplanting my seedlings, and I think I have it squared this time. If I make up the tag ahead of time, then plant, I check after and know if there it is on top of the next plant! LOL! well, 10 into 24 plants, so it is working so far.
Looks like your off to a great growing season jangel....
I am anxious to see how that sexing chart works out for ya...I was going to try it out a while back but never did. Nice flavourful line up of greens you got started. Here's to hoping for a great growing year to one and all..
Here are my seedlings and how leggie they where and how they look now. Little tutorial on transplanting as well. I know, it is basic, but it helps many showing this so that is indeed the point.
Here we go! They where transplanted on the 11th of april and I just took the last pic on the16th(today) so they are all doing well. I have them on 24/0 light under my hps and not even close. All are doing well.
So never panic if they get leggie. It indeed does make them better plants. See how when I have transplanted them I buried them up to the round water leaves. Now they are loving it!
All but 2 of my clones rooted and I potted them up this morning. I will wait a day or two before taking more, as right now I have seedlings on the heating pad. Last picture is of them all potted up and under my T-5 light. I have them quite a distance from the light. Up to now they have been totally under cover to increase the humidity. And on a heating pad to keep the roots warm. But not too warm. It works well for me. Now, since the roots where just starting to come through the peat pellets I have kept them covered for now, and will slowly uncover them as they grow and move them closer to the light. There is also no food in this soil mix. It is just potting soil, plain old good quality potting soil and perlite. I picked one without food in it. That way I can add what I want to when I want to. Clones do not need much food at this stage and it can hold them back. I will feed them once they are out of the domes and growing new leaves. Otherwise, they burn very easily. And cannot use the food. Yet.
Okay SO here are some more sexed seeds I have germed.
We have AK 47 auto flowering-
5 of them and 3 females 2 males~
still have 2 to germ, they where not quite out yet.
Dela Haze ~ 4 total
3 female 1 male
Blue Moonshine ~ 6 total
4 female 2 males
Here's the pics!
I have placed them on the heating pad and marked them, waiting for them to break soil. They are domed now, but will remove that later tonight, once I am sure all are well moistened.
That is it for now, all are doing just fine. I have so far only fed my mums. My seedlings I potted up I gave some humic acid and some SM-90. Nothing else at all as all of it is in the soil. What I did give them was just for a bit of a boast to encourage the roots to hit the new soil. They seemed to love it!
looking good as usual jangel. im very interested to see how your AK-47 autoflower goes.

Looking good jangals.Your going have a nice crop for the outdoors this year. What are you doing to perpair the out door planting beds?I would after I got my beds cut up and turn in a day before planting I would spair the beds with a little sm-90 to run the bugs off and wet the soil too.Just my 2 cents. Good job. Peace
Thanks toke. I had not thought of that, but bit is a great idea. There is still snow where I will plant, so I have to wait a while yet, we had snow just last week!
Thanks jangel for your journal here, I know it is put in a way I can learn a few, I do love plants,, when my babies grow up I want them to be just like jangels lol
