Rep Power: 121 | | Jock Horror in Rubbermaid Grow Box - First Grow
Hi all. I am growing Jock Horror inside a rubbermaid grow box. I have four 30 watt, 2000 lumen, 6500K full spectrum CFL's inside the box. I am using foxfarm Lightwarrior for soil, with no additives, and I will probably use foxfarm nutes when I get there. I germed the seeds using the papertowel method for a day, and then planted. Right now, I am at day 5, and have sprouted 5 of the six seeds I planted. The sixth seed broke open, but never lived, so I was semi heartbroken about that. The first pic is from two days after I planted, with two of the sprouts above ground and another one showing, and the second is five days after planting, with all five above ground. I have a question though. You can see the heat mat I am using in the pics. When should I stop using that? Thanks

Rep Power: 164 | | Oh yeah....This is gonna be nice. Let me be the 1st to say I'm following along. Where'd you get your beans from? And as far as the heat mat...once they're above soil and looking for light....you're fine. But it's good to use one if you have one while you wait for them to sprout. Good job. |

I did get mine from Nirvana, just before they started cracking down apparently. They look even nicer today, all five have their second set of spiked leaves coming in..... is there a technical name for the spiked leaves as compared to the round ones that come out of the seed? I'll probably remove the heat mat tonight because its pretty warm in the box, and I think that that is the reason why. No pictures today, probably after the weekend I will have some new ones. Thanks all!

Hi all, no pics today cuz my camera won't accept batteries (?) for some reason, but I have an urgent question. The leaves on a couple of my babies have brown ringed yellow spots across the center of them. From what I've been able to read at home, thats a PH problem. Any help? How would I raise or lower the PH in soil with household stuff? Thanks all
Pics as soon as I get my camera rolling again.

OK I have pics now. You can see the brown/yellow spots on three of them, and some closeups, but I don't think it's PH anymore, since all five get the same water. Plus I tested the soil three times and got approximately 6.5 each time. Could it be heat stress? It is very warm in the box(see pics), which is weird because I have a 63cfm fan in there, theoretically replacing all the air every 8 seconds or so. And outside the box, it's only 72. Any ideas folks?
But it's not letting me upload all the pics. I have some of the growbox itself, but I cannot upload them also.

Hey if you start to notice some stretch more than the others, expect them to be males. that happened to me, my tallest healthiest plants turned male, but my little one became so dense and was an amazing smoke.

yo thenoffya, that looks like a mag deficiency... i use a quarter teaspoon of epsom salts per gallon to quick fix, but now i use cal-mag plus the whole way through to prevent it from starting...
-> what kind of water are you using? i know distilled has nothing in it and thats why i have to add cal-mag.

I am using tap water that has sat out for a couple days to lose chlorine. I don't have the cash for a water filtration system. Would starting up my nute cycle take care of that? I was going to start this weekend, but I can start it earlier. Also, I put another fan in there, so I got the temp down to 82F. I was going to use foxfarms grow and tiger bloom. Are the micronutes like magnesium in those as well? Thanks All

also remember you can get mountain spring water or distilled and most pet/fish stores will have r/o water for about 25 cents a gallon.

Unfortunately, I have no means of transportation other than my feet.... I'm not sure I'm so dedicated to this that I'll lug a couple gallons of water around everyday..... so that idea is out. Sorry :(

With what are you checking the PH of the water with? And do you check the run off of the water that you watered with?If you are using a PH meter is it calibrated? Two gals of water in a soil grow will last two weeks for the first month and a half. You may be over watering.how offen do you water? Are you waiting till the soil drys to the first two inches of soil.Over watering can cause this too.Over watering is one of the biggest mistakes a newbe will make.I know I did.You want to start the nutr when the second set of leaves grow out.Just 1/4 strenght of what the bottle says to use.Do get the temps down alittle more if you can.Hope that helps you out.PEACE

Looks like a fun grow. When my plants (soil) were that size I generally gave them about 1/4 cup of water every 2 days, but ONLY if they needed it.
I trust my moisture gauge ($8.00) as it hasn't failed me yet, along with the pick-it-up-and-see-if-it-feels-dry method. Between those two I usually get it right.
Pick up some Superthrive...it isn't the be-all/end-all, but the damn stuff really helps a baby along. I use 1 drop per gal. in every watering.

I have been checking the Ph of the soil with a Rapitest meter I picked up a couple years ago for twenty bucks. It's just one of the ones with a needle on a dial, nothing fancy or electronic. However, I went to the store today and picked up a bottle of Superthrive, the Foxfarm Grow Big, and a 3 in 1 Ph/moisture/light meter, the latter for $8 US. So now I have two meters, and can play them off of each other. I'm sure I have been overwatering now, and I'm glad I waited a little instead of going ahead and throwing some nutes at them. They look exactly the same today(terrible) as they did yesterday, and I felt like I should have watered them yesterday. I watered them today, with some Superthrive thrown in for good luck. I guess I was probably overwatering to compensate for the heat in there. As for that, I'll probably end up getting a bigger fan, but I want to try something this weekend. I want to attach a piece of plexiglass to the bottom of the light fixtures, leaving room around the edges for air to escape upward. Hopefully it will keep most of the heat in the upper compartment where the bulbs and fan are. Smokedoja, have you had any problems with heat with yours? Like I said, if that doesn't work, then I guess I'll trade out that fan for another. I figured it would be fine because its rated 64 CFM, which theoretically should replace the air in there every 8 seconds. Oh well, such is life, eh? Smokedoja, if it lets me upload them, some pics of my tub. Let me know if that satisfies you. Thanks all!

great work!!!!! that looks perfect! i havent had any heat problems,i just finished my summer grow a month ago, when it was 75 degrees room temp and i used a 37 cfm fan (1st pic) ive just finished a new box with a 65 cfm fan (2nd) that im about to use cuz my 8 northern light seeds just germinated.... so i dont think you'll need to switch fans... unless your from somewhere hot as hell
for some encouragement , heres a pic of the finished product...harvested last month from that exact growbox 69g's PICT0416(1).JPGPICT0413(2).JPGharvest 3.JPG
