Default Early Bud Rot- good pic

The brown leaf in the middle of the bud is the giveaway. This is not a leaf that lost color with age, it is absolute dead brown and indicates that bud rot is occurring inside the bud at that spot. The actual damage inside is larger when it is broken open for inspection. This stuff can DESTROY your crop in a matter of days, so please look for it, especially on the densest buds....I took down the cola in the picture- it was 6 wks- but left the side branches to frost up. So far, no rot on those. I have had rot on 3 plants so far, but I've been able to identify it early and avoid serious loss.

My understanding is that the spores are somewhat common, but only thrive in the right conditions. Sometimes I think the spores land on the buds and the bud grows around them, then they flourish when conditions become optimum. It seems to be a problem only in the densest (nicest!) buds. I've been moving the air with fans although that hasn't been enough for this extremely humid New Eng. summer. A dehumidifier in the room is often recommended but I haven't made the investment. [There is more info at the Outdoor Growing forum here].

I have a pic of the side buds that I left. They are getting really sugared at 8 wks. This pic is from 7 wks, will try some more at harvest. They have some amber so I'll probably chop soon

its moisture and temperature that sets it off... especially in like your say dense buds and at humid times like autumn, first rains.. and its still warm...

in buds the plant continues to metabolise after being cut down, in dense buds this creates wrmth.. coupled with the moisture of the buds.. well... mold thrives.. keeping the air cool and fressh around and in the buds will prevent it.
