Yes, a new "experimental" grow (experimental because i never did a complete grow in a DWC unit...) nor have i tried Jock Horror genetics in a hydro environment. [Some say you have to go easy and with low EC when growing JH but to my experience it can stand medium strength solutions on soil very well, so the chance is good that it could be the same in hydro.]
Lets start with the set up of this one:
- 2 black pvc containers, about 17 l each, with a strong black lid (bought them cheap from IKEA )
- 4 0.7 l hydro pots
- expanded clay pellets
- Hesi hydro (syntetic full blend fertilizer)
- Hanna pH/EC meter
- 1 180 l/h and 1 400 l/h* air pump
- 4 JH clones grown in a jiffy tabs (according to Sharman jiffies are working great in hydro units and you don't have to worry about all the rockwool cubes in your trash bag...)
setup tanks:
i cut 2 round holes in each lid, one at each far end of it. for the air tube i drilled a addidional hole into each lid, leaving me with two finished units.
first filling:
12l tap water with fertilizer @ EC 0.95 and 5.8 / 5.9pH
and last: **this is a open thread, so come in and help your self**

If you have had some...whats your opinion of Jock Horror. I have 10 seeds I was going to start inside in the spring. I have read a lot of people knocking it, mostly about growing it and saying that it wouldn't finish. I'd like to know how good the high is and if it's potent...thanks and good luck with the grow.

notice the star next to that 400 lh pump? well that one quit its service after only 48h!! and this is not a warranty case as the spring blade of the magnetic leg of the membrane pump broke nor do they sell spare parts - "be so kind and buy another of our crappy pump for 50 of your bucks" - well, no thanks.
so i went to a local pet center, aqua section, 20 bucks for a 550l/h pump with 4 ports and free Y-connectors - this baby is big enough to run 4 of my units... well a good buy so far.
and i fitted my tanks with a heating for each tank, fish tank heater. one with 25W and one with 50W, both set to 70-72°F. the roots love it.

for my personal taste it could be a bit more on the sativa side. the thing is with growing it is to staying in a height limit before stating the flower (strain triples!) , limit the topping to few times as less is more on this strain. it is well to clone, in a dome and in jiffies it took my last batch 6 days till the first root been thru.
the only thing to be conservative on is with the feeding, rather start low and never try to push it too hard, needs N in the first 2 weeks of flower and don't let em run dry - the strain is easy to kill with these issues.
so far it took me 9.5 - 10.5 weeks to finish flower, overall need strain - which is why i use it here instead of my BigBud

Water change today, they get another week in veg. old mix, light, .95mS/500ppm at 5.8ph.
light build up of algae, at least it is getting slimy in there. So a question to you fellow DWC grows, what is your choice - hydrogen peroxides or oxy and in what mixture?

Am doin 10 plants in a Recirc.DWC, 2-20 gal rubbermaids. I change water and nutes every 2 weeks and have yet to see ANY algea growth. I stay at 50% nute strength with GH nutes. pH everything at the water/nutes change. They have been flowering now for about 20 days now under a mixture of CFLs. Just got my 1K HPS in the mail yesterday, still waiting on the cool tube. The girls are about 2 foot tall and doing fine. Will be goin to HomeDepot for my 6" inline fan for the cooltube today, and getting the aluminum ducting from AceHardware. Can't see the top of the tubs because of the prolific growth. IMHO you are getting a light leak into the DWC tub to alow algea growth to get a foot hold. H2O2 is tricky stuff. I've been looking into it to see if I can supplement my Disolved Oxygen, which I don't think I'm really haveing a problem with. Mainly for prepareing water for the changeout. I'm still bubbling my changeout water with airpumps for 24 hours. So far it's working. H2O2 comes in 2 varieties, Food grade, and Technical grade. From what I've researched what you order online can be labled as food grade, but you get tech grade instead. Whatever grade you get I should have NO contaminants. Dont know much about the Oxy stuff. I figure I'd stick to what I'm doing, it's working. Hope this helps. Luck with the decision.

well, my tanks are black and light prove. but it is also just a light slimy cover on the tubes, could be what ever that is growing there... and my tanks are heated which could also benefit algae grow as well as my babies roots.
on the H2O2 - all i have is lab grade which is supposed to be clean to 99.95% and 30% in concentration according to the label - should be good enough. I will tine it down with RO to 3% and feed 2ml per tank to see if this is enough yet this will not be too strong for the roots. If more is needed I can still add a little more to the mix.
besides, my tab water holds 0.79mS, with nutrients added .95 means i add only .16mS of fertilizer while they label the stuff with up to 1.5mS. And as the plants show all already a light to a bit more severe EC stress symptoms, but as these plants get hardly any fertilizer (10ml/10l - .16mS) this clearly shows that Jock Horror needs less in hydro, at least in the first weeks of veg.

first off the entire grow here, 4 DWC plants in the front, backed by 8 soil based plants in the rear. Oh, and my orange tree, sick again from someone over watering it. I hope a bit HPS light my kick start it again.

and now something really strange: I found a worm tangling in my babies roots! How odd is this, a worm in a hydro unit, no clue where this one is coming from.

please tell me now that he been playing in the yard don't tell this story to everyone
Oh I will save this one for his wedding! It was still moving too, and pale pink! I freaked. It was a sunday so the next day I called the doc and we took him and the diaper in. And the doc says a big long latin name, then says "Commonly known as the earth worm! And he did not even chew it!" then he solemnly looks at my 2 yr old son and say 'No more eating worms okay?" and my son says "no more eating worms" very seriously. I cracked up. I had been having fits until then!
