Rep Power: 67 | | The Bubblelicious Prays to Shiva
Hello all
Welcome to a new journal and a new strain for me, Shiva.
First a few details
This is an indoor grow using a 400w hps, organic soil and buckets.
Both strains are regular seeds from Nirvana. So five Bubblelicious and five Shiva seeds were soaked in a jar of water for several hours and then planted into a seed raising mix. 100% sprouted, with five out of Shiva being female, and one out of five Bubblelicious being female (same as previous).
Vegetative period is over and four plants were topped a while ago including the Bub. The other two weren't really ready at the time to be topped, and after then they weren't too healthy so I waited, and then ended up leaving them be.
If any of you followed my previous grow with Bubblelicious and AK48, you'll know I had numerous problems, and this grow was no different. A few different soil mixes, pulling my hair out, and through that the plants lost quite a bit in terms of leaves and growth. In fact these plants were pretty much on deaths door, small, very sick, and I was about to scrap the whole grow. But one last try with a new soil mix and I lucked out and the plants love it. Happy days
In this mix i'm using a potting mix called Pot 'n' Peat, and to that I have a store bought compost (nutriblend5) mixed in at 10%. No perlite this time.
In the compost we have Cow Manure, Poultry Manure, Worm worked compost, Blood & Bone and Humus extract.
One Shiva plant likes to have a bit extra mag so she gets a foliar spray once a week. Other than that the plants have straight water and get their nutrients from whatever is in the soil.
So here we have the five Shiva plants and one Bubblelicious on their first day of 12/12, the Bub is in the middle blue bucket.
Bubblelicious
There we go!
Updates most likely once a week, maybe more. Hope you enjoy the log. | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to Noneinone For This Useful Post: | |

They certainly do love the manure! If there's a healthy green leaf on those plants it's because of the compost/manure The difference in one to two weeks has been well amazing, it's lovely seeing them happy and healthy. |

Hey none,
They are some healthy looking girls! Looks like you mixed up a beautiful batch of soil to me. Why did you forgo the pearlite this time around? Good luck and I'll be checking in on your grow for sure.

I've always added perlite for drainage, and there is a little in there now from the first couple mixes I used. After that I simply ran out and was too lazy to drive the extra half hour to get it and tbh I wasn't expecting the plants to make a recovery. Up until the new soil mix they hated everything.
I haven't noticed any problems from not using perlite. It's strange to me, i've always had a good mix of perlite, the pots always drained really well, and yet my plants have always seemed droopy and overwatered. There's quite a bit of that in my old grow and looking back on this grow they seemed droopy when I had them in the seed raising and perlite mix as seedlings.
So it makes no sense to me. I'd like to be able to say I know what i'm doing but I totally went against what I thought was right. I would never have used this soil because of the peat, I assumed it would be acidic and hold too much water. And on top of the peat there is also something in there to help retain even more water. It's a mystery to me but i'm happy to see them perky and healthy, they tend to droop a little after several days but then perk up after a watering so I think it's all good atm.

That's pretty interesting. I had problems growing in pearlite but was in either a 75% mix or a 100% mix if pearlite (soilless). I'm not big on the stuff at this point. I experienced the same problems. Could have been a bad batch I guess but I doubt it.
Nice pics,

I'm having some minor troubles also, a little leaf twisting and some eagle clawing. Your plants are looking sweet! Great job man! Wish I had your talent.

I think my clawing might have cleared up for now, just have that plant that is twisting its leaf. I've heard it could be PH, or cal, or the strain, or even that the plant is growing faster than nature intended (wouldn't that be nice) lol At the moment they're not dying and I can't really see any other signs that they're not happy.
Maybe someone will come in and know what it is.
There's no talent here though haha, oh man if you could see some of the recent grows i've had and my problems just getting a nice green color.
I've put it down to simplifying. I mean using feeding programs and so on seems to work really well for other people but I must be slow because I really can't get it down. Where as at the moment there isn't really a way I can screw up unless I start adding stuff. I might check to see if the lights need to be raised occasionally, but I really don't do anything. I haven't even watered since I started this thread, I might do it tomorrow or wait a little longer until the plants let me know, but they all seem happy so I leave them alone. My job is just to take pictures lately. |

Hey None,
I believe what Toke, Hatch, and some others have said. It's due to my using the GH liquid Ph test kit giving me inaccurate Ph readings. I need to buy a proper Ph pen ASAP. I'm going to swap my nutes also. I have an unopened bottle of Tiger Bloom I can trade in for some FloraNova veg nutes. I've been using FoxFarm soil nutes and I think I'd have better success and less to worry about if I was using hydro specific nutrients.
I think the less variables you have to worry about the easier it is to problem solve so I agree with you 100%. Right on, watering in soil at the proper moment is critical. A lot of people wait until the top dries out and the soil just below the surface is dry to the touch, maybe two inches down before they water again. Just hearsay though, I have no direct experience in this area.
I'm glad things are working out for you and I hope with both get some nice buds outta these grows.
