Rep Power: 47 | | BPP's Summer of '09 Outdoor Grow
Hey guys I'm glad I can finally post up a grow journal. I was a bit hesitant at first incase something went wrong and I utterly failed, but I figure, what the heck. I spend so much time on this site anyhow, I might as well add my own little piece!
So the grow for this summer has started a little late, I know. It's just that the weather was not at all favourable these past two weeks, really overcast and dropping down below 5*C at night. Now that the weather seems to be back to normal I decided to get crackin'.
The grow is fairly small because I don't want to be overwhelmed for my first shot at all this. I'll be growing 5 plants from a local seed bank. The strain is Summertime Buddha and apparently a relatively sativa toned plant (80/20). I started the germination two days ago and 4/5 look like they have popped perfectly where as one has only cracked open, yet to stick it's tap root too far out.
I germinated my seeds using the old fashioned paper towel method. Warm and wet paper towel, seeds on top, then another warm and wet paper towel. Resoaked the paper towels every 8 hours or so and it seemed to work just fine.
I plan on posting pictures weekly, or maybe even more often depending on how ansty I get. So here's the first set of shots, hope you all enjoy!

Thanks man, I'll be sticking them in the ground as soon as I see growth. Want them to kind of get a strong hold in the soil before I transplant them.

Thanks guys. I'll probably get pictures up this weekend when they get transplanted into the ground. Hopefully there will be something to look at by then!

How long should it take for them to break the surface? I'm beginning to get anxious. They haven't popped their heads out yet. Should I maybe try a different soil. I have two bags or organic promix in the garage for when I plant them at my grow spot but the soil they are in right now is the soil from the vegetable garden. I figured it would be alright, the other plants seem to be growing quite well in it. What should I do?

Hey there BPP don't worry it's only been a few days since they cracked right? Then you planted them they take a short time to break ground. Are they inside or out? If they are outside it still been a bit cool especially at night so that will delay them a bit too.
Give it a bit more time.

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. I began considering transplanting them in a different soil, but I think that would have been a bit foolish considering the lettus that was planted in the same soil has begun to grow with no problems. The waiting is killing me

So you were right. Checked on them a couple minutes ago when I got home and 2/5 have poked their heads through so far. It's been really overcast and nasty out though for the past few days so I have faith in the others popping up. Wish me luck!

Gr8t news BPP. The weather really has not been gr8t yet so it is not the best for them to get going. Can you bring them in from outside and put them under a cfl? This would give them the warmth at night and more steady light. Just a suggestion.
I'm glad they have begun to break ground. Keep updating as you make progress.

Sadly, I don't have anywhere set up to accomodate them, so I'm hoping they can just stick it out! The weather looks like its going to be getting a bit better soon, no more dropping below 10*C.

So here's this weeks update. Had to transplant them due to unexpected conditions so the babies are now in the ground. Have them in an organic mix I picked up from the store, hopefully they shoot up and grow very big!
So far they look pretty healthy, their leaves are pointing up to the sky. Where they're planted there's a ton of tall grass so I may have to be weeding them a ton, hopefully not though. Here are the pictures!

Now that they're outside, will I need to water them as often as when they were in the cups?

Rep Power: 201 | | You'll need to water them til they adapt. Don't water the base of the plant, pour around the base so the roots start reaching for the new source of moisture. Depending on your local rain, could take a couple of weeks to get'm set. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Zigzagman For This Useful Post: | |

I'm planning on visiting the babies at the guerilla grow tomorow. I was wondering if it would be worth topping plants outside. Is it fairly easy to do, this would be my first grow. How long should I wait before I do it.
Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks for the help guys. | Hey there BPP go have a visit and enjoy what they have been doing in the last week. The weather around here still has not been gr8t. It is probably a bit too early to top the plant IMO.
Take a couple of pics because someone that has more experience with outdoor growing will better guide you with that. The picture will give a better idea what the growth stage is.
