| The Bank Seed Experiment I have learned quite a bit from being a part of this community as well as endless hours of research in order to successfully grow my first plants. For those of you who have been following my grow journal you are aware that I recently harvested three females from some bag seed. This grow journal originally titled, "The Bag Seed Experiment", was basically a documentation on the results of using a cost efficient setup as well as free bag seeds. Now that we have a control for the experiment I'm happy to say that I am in the process of ordering bank seeds not only to get some quality smoke but to see the comparison in potency, yield, growth time, and various other details between bag seed and bank seeds. This comparison will be based upon personal experience so it will only be an average result and not to be taken as a fact or a strong opinion. I would say it's mostly just for fun! ;) ------------------------------------------------------ The question being asked in this experiment is, "Do you get what you pay for?". Does spending a few dollars on seeds make a significant difference in the quality of your bud? All questions shall be answered by the end of this journal. I have not yet received the seeds and so I am just introducing the idea to the grow journal section. I literally will be updating from before I even receive the seeds to the day I chop them down giving you the most complete grow journal that I can. You will get a full report on the strain itself as well since I will actually know exactly what I am growing. To those of you who saw my other grow you might be aware that I am in the first few weeks of flowering a haze crossbreed plant. It's looking pretty nice and the topping that I did during veg worked out well. The seeds were from a friend's plant which turned out to be a hermy and he collected the seeds from it. He originally purchased the haze seeds from a bank seed company so I basically got the seeds from a plant that was grown with bank seeds. I guess that's considered 2nd generation or something? Not sure haha, but it's still closer to quality seeds then my first grow was! He was also nice enough to give them away for free. Stay tuned ![]()

| Does spending a few dollars on seeds make a significant difference in the quality of your bud? great question, and very impressive on your part finding out for yourself! I do have a concern about your research question and how it will be answered basically you are doing a cost analysis of quality comparing bag seed to commercially available seeds...correct? bag seed differs greatly from bag to bag...so I don't know how you will make a conclusion about bag seed in general, but rather only about the particular bag seed you have.... but I do think your attempt to challange the notion that "the most expensive is always best" is a very good thing....and if your hypothesis (no significant difference between bag and store bought) is proven correct in this one particular case....it may lead more members to try adding their own genetic diversity to MJ gene pool.....MJ is very mutable and like dogs and apples you can breed all sizes, shapes, colors, tastes, smells...ect you never know what you will find with bagseed and sooner or later someone is going to find some really great as yet undiscovered trait so rock on four two zero! and I will follow this with much interest | ||||||||

| Thanks for the input Scott. Basically exactly what you said was correct. Seeing as bag seed does come in a wide variety I would say that the comparison would be within my own experience with the bag seeds I received using the same cost effective setup for both. The only thing changing is the fact that I bought the seeds rather then free bag seeds. The bag seeds I got were also supposedly somewhat decent stuff that it came from so I would say that it's a good "average" bag seed. So even though the bag seed that I used can't be a conclusion to all bag seeds it can still be a good indication of whether or not the average bag seed is as good as bank seed. I'd figure that getting really good quality bag seed is a rare treat considering any bud that's really good is usually seedless to begin with but if you got a good hookup I'm sure you can get your hands on some top notch seeds either way. So basically my experiment probably caters best to the average person in the United States or any weed prohibited country without a "hookup" for seeds and solely relying on finding some in their bags or buying them. Plus, I will report on how the shipment goes and if I encounter any problems as well. Stay tuned.
