| Oka...I got a question for you stoners, I've looked at my plants, and the distance from the lights. Now please keep in mind the design of this grow room, as normal rules dont apply. Upon inspection, my plants canopy is about 20 to 26 inches from the light, PRIOR to starting flowering. The plants themselves are about 12" tall. This says to me that at harvest, my plants will be about 28" tall. Should I get the plants closer to the light? If I get em closer, I can tie strings to them to force them from getting too close to the light. Your thoughts? ![]() | ||||||||

| Videoman...This might not be how others determine light distance to canopy top, but it has worked well for me with 600w HID's. The guy at my local hydro shop tricked me on to it -- I place my hand on the top of my tallest plant, and leave it there, back side up--leave your hand there for one full minute. If the back of your hand gets more than slightly warm, raise the light, and repeat until it is at a comfortable distance. Measure this distance, and maintain it as your plants grow. My lights are attached to a rope, that runs through pulleys secured to the top of my room. I have cleats on the walls to secure the rope. They're easily raised and lowered. Hope this helps...B

| I keep mine about 14 to 20 inches from mine, vid. They will seek the light and grow to get it. Every time I lower something, it goes back up again and that is good. Just determine the optimum circle and go from there. I think it is better to have them closer at first and move them back rather than anticipate where they will grow to and have the optimum there yet to be reached. Ya catch my drift? So maybe move them closer but be prepared to move them back too as they grow. instead of raising and lowering the light as in horizontal grows you have to move the plants cause the light is stationary. .....very good pot...and I grew it myself!!! ![]() Peace

| hi vid, this is one of the greatest DIY ventures ive seen for some time, i take my hat off, really, i do. of course id make a few modifications ( the day i wouldnt have an opinion would be a bad day indeed, heheh).. i was thinking about your feeding techniques, and the pots.. ok feeding first. i think a drip system on a timer and one single reservoir would simplify your life, and your back somewhat.. if you calculate, what the plants uptake is and carefully tune the dripper then you would automate that part of the opp. then i got to thinking about the pots etc... and tokecrazy's FLOOD PIPE GROW, now imagine hooking up a few rows of these set at an angle like your pots, and all hooked up to a central reservoir... maybe even running from one to the other by gravity... with more than one pump just to be on the safe side.... just thinking, and imagining... hehehe, i do alot of that, im an architect, its my job. by the way here at my new home we all talked about it and we are officially building a small cab grow like in tokecrazies cab loaded up thread, i have like you do 5 feminized the church seeds germing, id like to know specifically, what they grow like, any special atentions , some feedback on the strain, its not a strain id go out and buy, i got them free in a magazine i bought at the news stand, so im really interested in knowing, ive been to the web page and its all propaganda to be sure...the simple truth would be nice sometimes from these seed banks... it never hurts to tell the truth. i mean the vid on the strain at the greenhouse site has two shiny eyed guys ranting and raving and waving theyr arms all over the place like two smiling lunatics peace ileso plus i found this info in cervantes grow bible, hope it helps Last edited by ileso; 09-05-2008 at 06:59 AM. | ||||||||

| Vid, I have been busting my brain trying to figure out how to add more plants to my grow and now, with your help, I might of come up with it! My light is over a table, chock ablock with blooming plants. There is still about 2.5 feet in front of the light that could grow plants. My revolving fan is there and I use that area to stand in so anything there on the floor would not work. I was thinking if I could use your idea and attach like 6 pots to the wall, up high and still close enough to the light to gain by it, I could then start the next lot to flower now and keep the fans going and have room to stand. What do you think and any suggestions? The inside wall has 2by 4's but I could do whatever to make this work. It is all possible. They are all vegging now in the same size pots as yours, and I have more I could use for the bases.

| Thanks guys...all of you. My exhaust works great GSR, no worries. Jangel, I believe this style of grow will give you more bang for your buck, easily. Granted this is my first time using this design, and I'll make some mistakes, but I'll learn and improve. the watering is really not that bad an issue. Takes me about 15-20 minutes to water em all, but I take my time and hang with the ladies a bit, so maybe 30 minutes. I wish I made the unit somewhat smaller, like 8-12 inches less, but I didn't so I am replacing one ballast this week, with a 600 watt unit, and I'll do the other light after harvest. I think given the size, 600's are better suited here. The unit's walls are 6' long now, and 7' high. Moving on, here are some pictures: (The 4th pic is a clone, and its leaves have always looked like that, and so long as it keeps growing....I'm not worrying about it.) | ||||||||
