Default 1st grow 40 days into flowering

Hi all,

Just a couple of updated pictures of my 2 northern lights #5 plants. I started the 12/12 with a 400HPS on Aug 1 so they have been at it for 40 days. They seem to be turning yellow from the bottom up a bit faster than I expected. Hopefully things will work out as the buds are plumping up nicely. The really strange thing is that I snapped a bud and it was almost severed. I used some tape and got it vertical again. Now that bud is the densest and I'm kinda sorry I didn't break more of them :-)

peace,
R

Beautiful job, Ron. THE prettiest scrogg! Wouldn't ya just love to see a field like this, that you could almost walk on? .....hmmmmmmm just imagine the smell...I love the smell when I go into my flower room. One of them smells like choclate liquaor sooo yummy! Yours must smell like heaved too.

And Ron, it is only natural they are yellowing at the bottom. They are using up the nitrogen in the leaves and that is what you want for smooooooth smoke. Looking just wonderful! Pull the yellow leaves off when they get loose and save them as they will make good bubble hash. I have 6 bags of trim saved! Plus one frozen in the deep freezer fresh! Make sure you sweeten them buds up with molasses or something like that.

I am sure you already are, sorry, just comes out natural....

Peace

Do you have more info on your grow somewhere? I just got 13 NL#5 seeds from highgrade-seeds.com and Im curious as to the particulars of your grow.

Hey eyem. You can find all threads by other users by just clicking the member's name and then go to other posts. Here is a link to one of Ron's threads, just look like I suggested for the others.

Some would say I've got a bastardized system for a soil grow. I guess I don't disagree. I've used a 3 part hydroponic solution for fertilizer right from the start. IMO the key is to start at 1/4 strength or less and be very gentle when the plants are young. I have moved up to 100% strength but I always flush the plants with RO water before I feed them. The other thing I do is let the plant tell me when they want water. I do that by checking the leaves - when they start to droop the plant is thirsty. Above all remember that these things are a weed and will grow in quite a lot of conditions. Oh ya, I always PH my water/fertilizer to a ph around 6.4ish.

This is my first grow but if I can be of any help just ask!

peace,
R

wow Ron a great looking grow you got going...and such classic strain...plenty of strains yellow from the bottom up as flower goes on...I have a hunch that when they don't there may be too much ferts..I couldn't agree more about starting the nutes weak and then gradually increasing....CONGRATS!

I figured the plant was using the nitrogen in the lower leaves to support the buds. With that in mind I haven't been picking the yellowing leaves off. I leave them and they curl up all brown and crunchy. I've got fans that keep lots of air moving around the top and bottom of the plants and I haven't seen any mold or other nasties. I assume the dried up leaves are garbage?

cheers,
R

If you are saving leaves then save those too. They will have trichs on them, if you plan to make hash out of the extra leaves. Pick off those dead leaves hon, as they can encourage mold growth, and don't leave them on the soil. When they are yellow like that, if they come off freely when you pull on them, their job is done, so get them out of there. The more air around the base of the plants, the better. Also look for dead twigs or dried of branches that never grew. Get them gone too.
