I currntly run a box that is 3x3.5x7feet..
in it is a 6inch aircooled hood running a 600w hps w CO2. It is cooled by a 6" Fanteck 265cfm cent. fan.
The hood is mounted so that it runs parrell to the long measurment of the box. I'm told it should be perpendicular to it, for best light distribution.

Mounting this 6" hood so that it is perpendicur to the box isn't an option it's too long. But I have another A/C hood that has 4" in/out ports, they come out the sides of the hood not the ends... can I make this work with 6">4" reducers or do I leave well enough alone? I do have a 4" fan but really rather run the 6" on a lower speed (<noise!)

Would the restriction cool the hood as well? or am I going to have to run the portable AC @ 65F to maintain 10" from canope`, like I do now (10")?
