Default Lighting Shootout

Hi

I'm new here and am wondering if there is a sticky somewhere comparing equipment. This seems to be the place to get the "consumers' report".

I know there are seedbank reviews, but are there lighting equipment reviews anywhere? I don't want to base my choices totally on the advertising from the vendors...

thanks

I think a lot might depend on what space you are trying to light. I don't know of any threads that review all the lights from different manufacturers. Would be a good sticky though. You may have better luck posting a few links to the lights you are considering and let us know what space you will be using it in..

Well, if you are interested in a certain thing, someone here will chime in and tell you their experiance or research on the subject. I beleive we have a group of very smart shoppers here, that know how to compare and how to judge the performance of thier equipment. And they are free with their wisdom.

But persay, no we don't have a review of X and how it performs that I know of. Just experianced growers that know what they like. And what they don't.

You could start one if you like. I am sure that would not be a problem.

Peace.

While we do have some equipent reviews, but as far as CFL's vs HID, the battle continues. We have die hard users on both sides of the debate. I suppose the bottom line, is that they will both work.

However, watt for watt, the HID will produce more lumens per watt, than the CFL's do.

Like Angel said though, it depends on your grow space design, and what suits you best.
Peace

Save your money! IF your going to grow quality weed you need a 1000 watt HPS (High pressure sodiam) AND you will need a good reflector I HIGHLY recomend the Cool Sun Reflector! its been tested and true by far the best reflector on the market. I have been growin for a while I have tryed them all. I will not grow without it again.

BUT, Thats my opinion!

Well guys, that discussion is over! Fred has spoken and Our own in house genius knows best. How's it doin' Fred? How's the wife? And dogs? Kids okay or still driving you to perdition? What is up with you, buddy? Get that house finished yet?

Fred, one question on that. I don't have a big space, it is only 4 ft by 7 ft and that includes the door to go in. 7 ft 8 high. Wouldn't a 600 do me better, with less heat etc?

You take care babes. Nice seeing you on here buddy. Hey drop vid a line, I think he wants to talk to you.

Peace and take care Buddy. stay away from the still! Back away...now.

Where do you rank cool tubes Fred, seems to be a little more versitile when space is concerned?

Thanks,

Sock

I use cool tubes in my veg room, They work well for keeping it cool but the light spread is not as great. The cool sun is also air cooled. The light spread is 200 percent better. It has 6 in duct vents on it. its a big reflector its like 22 x 20 and really woks well! I will never buy a differant reflector again. I have tryed a lot of them.

Jangel,

Hangin in there baby its all we can do. Working my butt off! I cant wait for winter!

As for your closet I would still run a 1000 watter. You must keep it air cooled. The 600's IMHO are a waste of money. I have done the math, Considering the cost of the bulbs, the cost of energy, and the footprint it covers. I worked it all out on a spreadsheet somewere. anyway The 1000 won the challange! You will get better coverage = less lights and if you replace the bulbs 3 times a year it will cost you MORE money for the same light!
The other big factor is depth of coverage. a 1000 watter will penatrate down into the foliage much deeper give you more quality bud even on the lower branches.

If I were to grow in a closet no matter how small if I could fit the cool sun in it I personally would still use a 1000 watt bulb.

Stay safe folks!
