I have a question about Kelvins. When your plants are in the veg stage they like blue light, right? Is a 10000K bulb too blue? Or do they do better under a more balanced spectrum? This is of course assuming you are using the right size light for your garden.

Fman,

Take a look at the chart, below. It shows the light spectrums that plants use most, and what benefits them best.

kelvin.jpg

The 10,000 kelvin lamp is too high of freq. (too ultraviolet)

"Kelvin", in this case, is actually a temperature rating on the lamp which defines the wavelength of the light waves.

Best range for vegging is 5500-6500. Some folks veg under an HPS (2200-2700), and some use a "Dual" lamp that has both HPS and MH filiments in it.

Still, for just vegging I use 6500k.

Hope that helps ya!

Ive been looking at bulbs, and there are a lot of choices. Which lamp would be better in a sog set up. This would be for maintaining mothers, and about 2 weeks of vegging clones, before they go to the flower room. One bulb is 5000k prducing 23000 lumens or the one that is 6500k but only 18000 lumens. I know lumens are important but so is color, isnt it? I guess Im asking WHICH is more important Color or lumens? Im talking about a 250 watter.

I would go with the 5000k and the add'l lumens. Close enough in kelvin temp and more output.

No, both are equally important, IMO. The 5000k lamp is close enough in spectrum (for me, others may differ) so I would go for the extra lumens.

With only a 250W that add'l few thousand lumens can help.
