Rep Power: 0 | | Closet HPS ventilation
swim is trying to run his 600W eurosystems HPS with an inline fan or duct fan in a closet of dimensions approximately 4'x2'x8'tall. what would be the best method of ventilating this area? swim thinks he wants to run tubes through the light as well for cooling. he is also on a somewhat tight-ish budget... what sort of set up would you guys recommend?

for one light a"cool tube" and a 4 inch can fan should keep the temps where you want them.

Im running a 250w hps thru a cooltube with a S&P 4in fan. I can get the light to within 4-5ins of the tube itself with a canopy temp of around 80 in the summer(UK, so not much of a summer!). The only thing Im not happy with is the light spread with the cooltube. If it was me,which it will be soon, buying anew reflector, Id be looking at CoolShade reflector or a Supanova air cooled reflector.I kno money is an issue but surely it will pay for itself soon enough. Got to get the lighting right or you just wont be happy 100% Trust me!?! Im gettin rid of the cooltube as soon as possible!

I'd get a 6" CAP turbine fan, and probably a 4" for intake.
It will more than pay for itself. If you do your grow properly, make credit card payments for 3 months until its gone and pay it off.
If you screw up your grow you've got debt, but you need those fans anyway so you've got some motivation to make it work. The number one thing I see screwing up patients yield, quality, temps, everything, is not enough in and out. Oh, and normally bad plant spacing.

I am not sure what a CAP fan is. It could be a brand. I have a Vortex inline exhaust fan, 6 inch.
To understand the principles of ventilation please read this:

CAP is a brand, I've never used them personally but I have heard many good things about them. Here is a link to their webpage. R & M Supply, Inc. - Ventilation

Just got my CAP 6in inline fan today. Cost me less than $100, including UPS shipping to my door. Here is a link to the place I ordered from in case anyone would like to check them out. Valueline 6 Inch 435 CFM Centrifugal Inline Fan - Plantlighting Hydroponics This thing is rated at 435cfm, I plugged it in earlier and it really moves some air. I can't wait to install it in my grow cab. One step closer now to gettin' some plants started.

Rep Power: 24 | | Cool-Tube DIY 1000 W HPS at 18 inches on LST'd low
Box is 6' L x 3' D x 4' H
DIY cool-tube as within GP modified slightly for our setup.
Those plant tops are right at 18' from the tube
The weather is cool so helps a lot with 4" passive outside air. Next check it will go from a 4" hole in wall to 8" subfloor manifolded to six (6) or eight (8) 2" in floor registers.
Next grow on this tube will be a (near) Parabolic SCROG with six plants below. Screen will be at 20" from tube.
It continues to evolve but works well.
Many thanks to the DIY forums here at GP.
Read J'angel's thread on LST to keep 'em low with lots of bud sites. Thank you J'angel.
