i have a unventalated basment in a residentual area what should i do it will be my first grow what should i do for smell what should i do dirt or hydro bucket with drip system
The smell you can control with a filter. Your ventilating system can be closed loop so no air will leave the room. As to which style. Most people recommend starting with soil, but I think you can start anywhere. If you are going to jump in you may as well go off the high dive. LOL. I am an outside grower that knows a bit of hydro. I'm going indoors after this crop. I am sure other folks will chime in. The staff here is the BEST there is.

Hey there BB what other parameters do you have to work within. Like room size or closet and have you thought about lights yet? There are many grow journals on the go so check them out and pick and choose from them for ideas. It sometimes helps when you can see what it looks like and the success from the grower.
you can even suck air from your living room and blow it into your grow room. If your living room is air conditioned thats a plus. you dont wanna blow alot of humid air into a small room it will just give you problems.
just as long as you can manage to renew the air i dont see any other problem. if your a newbie i recomend starting with soil. but thats me, cause i reckon its easier to learn in. but some newbies do plunge head first into hydro. i guess its up to do you feel up to it or not..
well i was a dirt bagge rthe first time around ... the second time was with the drip.. this time it is a aero hydro mix type if you need any help just ask i built all of my stuff myself so let me know peace

What to do depends on your available FUNDS, IMO.
No matter what, you will need odor control, most likely a charcoal filter/inline fan set up.
I would go soil...sucking air from the room..through a filter and out.
If you go hydro you will need to buy a ppm meter and a pH meter... but if you understand the concept (READ, READ, READ) it is highly do-able and the yields are far better.
be safe. tell no one in your circle of friends what you are doing.
