Hmm.. I would be tempted to try and work the two 250's in there in cool tubes or something. If you can keep the heat down, i think having two individual 250s > than one 400. I think you would get better light coverage and potentially would be able to have plants of different canopy height or stages with the two 250's.

Personally, I have one 400w in a 20" deep x 48" wide x 72" tall cabinet....
I have also thought about popping a few t-5s in the cabinet running vertically on each side wall. I think it would be over kill and make my cab space shrink pretty quick.

Depending upon how big your area is, it can heat it up pretty quickly if you do not vent outside of the space you have your grow.. right now, mine is a cabinet in a room in the basement. It is surprising how much my veg cabinet running cfls and the flower cabinet running one 400 hps heat up that room.

I should really vent both to the outside to exhaust the heat. My 400w hps heated my flower cabinet to 98 degrees prior to putting a tempered glass in the reflector to make sure all the heat went out the exhaust. After I put the glass in.. it runs at 82 tops.. I expect it to be much lower in the winter.

Sounds like we have similar areas...

Okay, here we go me playing devils advocate. I have a 400w MH light with a conversion HPS bulb on now for flowering. My space is 7.8 ft hi, 4 ft wide, and aprox 4 ft deep. This is my flower room only. My space is in a former cold room, and I have a 6 inch vortex with a T'ed exhaust. working on the cabon filter. This room is long, and I have about 15 ft outside of that, for my veg area etc. all 4 ft wide, long and narrow. LOOK HERE to see how I set it up, Chiefa. Lots of info and different ways to conceal vents etc. I hope it helps you.

IF I had my druthers I would of bought a 600 watt hps with a Sun System Cool sun reflector. Here is another discussion by people that know what they are doing.

http://www.greenpassion.org/f23/1000...question-3368/

For your space, 1000 watts would be too big, but you will not go wrong with a 600 watt one. even a 400 watt one will be fine. And one is fine. In my opinion. In my opinion it is also worth while getting one that is convertable from MH to hps. I have heard differeing opinions on this, but that is my thought. Just hps works as well for veg and flower though.

Hope that helps you sweetie.

Peace.

Im no expert but I think it might work out something like this. 2 - 250 = 500watts and about 45000 lumens. A 400 is 400watts and 50000 lumens , (based on the bulbs I have) ,Seems to me 1 light would be better. Although with 2 lights you would have the ability to set them at different elevations. This is a good question that I am sure quite a few people have asked. SO what is the answer?

You can adjust the hieght of things, with buckets etc. and the light goes in a circular shape, so you can round out your plants. Like this: Taller ones at the edges, shorter ones underneath, etc. It is all handleable. These pics are only 5 plants.
