Snickel...

Since I've already got a bug up my tail about this, I went ahead and dug out a couple links that may prove useful to the Physicists in the house...

NIST: Color Rendering of Light Sources

NIST (National Institule on Standards and Technology) is about the highest court in the land when it comes to defining things such as CRI and Kelvin Temp.

If you want to figure out how to calculate your own lamps Kelvin temp, here is a link that can help:

Colour Rendering of Spectra

This next one is interesting...shows all kinds of stuff that most will make sense out of. We should, it was made for middle school math classes..

About Temperature

But, since like most of you I don't understand all that mathematical BS, I usually just take the manufacturers word for it..

So, That may be good for you 2700k spectrum. Now run to home dumpster or lowes and grab a few 5500k or 6500k bulbs..

I think you need to a bunch of these for your veg stage right now...
n:vision 27 Watt Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL), 1 Pack - 5M82755K at The Home Depot

Try like 7 or 8 of those from the above link, and two or three of the ones you have.
My apologies... Props go to GreenGoblin, who also nailed it in post #3 of this thread. The link he provided shows the specs on that bulb as well.

No doubt you know something about lights, but don't tell me I can't stinkin read. If you think that lamp is 3000k and they publish 2700k in their spec's, then go tell GE to change it.

Will you post a link to somewhere official that clearly states that all Soft White lamps are 3000k?

I ain't trying to be difficut, but damnit, I ain't stupid either.

ISO
I can't tell Ge to change it. Energy Star 4.0 will tell Ge to change it my man im sorry i don't know when. Ge can call 3000K warm white as much as they want but at the end of the day it's still a 3000K soft white bulb. That's why their's so much confusion.

Point is soon ge will have to label all those boxes with warm white isntead of SW.

well I think we will just have to agree to disagree agreably on this point...no point going on and on about it anymore everyone has had their say...and the original poster of this thread had an answer he is happy with a long time ago..I am going to close the thread and if anyone wants to get organized and back it up with reliable citations we can start a new thread on CFL nomenclature if they think it is warrented

Hmmm thousands of 2700K bulbs ALL labeled WARM WHITE. Go figure.

42 Watt CFL - Spring Lamp - Warm White 2700K - TCP 28942-27 Light Bulb

42 Watt Compact Fluorescent 2700K Warm White CFL

Chrondo,

Sir, you SAYING it is so does not make it that way. Understand? no disrespect intended, but SHOW US SOME PROOF!!

I am more than willing to step to your side of the court, but just show some empirical evidence that supports what you are saying.

Understand how this is done. A Test methodology is first discussed, defined and put into practice by folks typically waaayyy smarter than you or me, then using highly calibrated instruments NIST ran the tests and confirmed their theories, and as a result defined a "STANDARD" by which other companies can test their lights.
GE engineers used an established Int'l Standard to define that color temp.

If the GE engineers (and NIST) say that lamp is 2700k, then by God it's a 2700k lamp.

You can't argue with mathematics...answers are absolute when they are calculated correctly.

Fortunately, this is America and if you want to call it something it ain't, then no ones gonna stop ya.. Just don't come in here and try to tell our members something you can't (or won't) back up.

You can call it "Soft" or "Cool" or "Warm" or any other bloody thing...it is STILL a 2700k lamp!

End of discussion.

ISO
