and as for rock wool... use it thats what i do i germ in rock wool then when i see the first sign of root i take out of the germ box and put it still in the cube on top of about an inch of hydroton in the net pot and then fill the rest of the pot up around and on top of the rockwool cube!

it is not necessary to even use rockwool in combination with hydroton...if you are putting clones in you can just put them into the pot (hold them with roots in the bottom of the pot) while you slowly fill the pot with hydroton around the plant.
