Default T5 Fluorescents

Hey there people I'm a newbie here and I'm not ashamed to admit it so please forgive the newbie question. If ya' don't ask you may never know and your plants will look like crap .About how many inches do ya think a pair of 2 ft.T5 fluo's can be placed over 4 day old seedlings in a small grow cab. They burn pretty cool, temps directly under them in the closed cab are about 80 degrees without fan and about 10 degrees less with fan on.Thanx.

Thanx for the reply. They do not have a high/low switch. They are the Hydrofarm T5 set that you can link a few together. They're pretty kool .I plan on linking up to about 6 together to cover the top of the cab when they get bigger.Being that the plants are small 2 is fine for now. Here is a link to them. http://www.hydrofarm.com/pb_detail.php?itemid=6706
They are pretty affordable as well, the site price is much higher than what you can actually get them for.

Currently they are on a 24/0 photoperoid, and so far have there second set of true leaves, but I plan on switching to 18/6 when the are about 1 month old.Do you think I should switch all at once or should I do it gradually, say an hour or so per day?

Maybe I should do it gradually but I don't. I just make the switch and have never had a problem.

hey mogie, it is no problem to keep them only an inch away and check daily - only if they touch the tube for more then a day you are a bit in trouble. tubes don't get as hot as CFLS get.

keep them at 1-2" from the tubes, also prevents stretching soon.

I know but the way mine set up is if they are that low I can't really see the plants that well (when the plants are little like they are now new clones the lights hide them too much when that low).
