Default Noob needs help from a kind soul..T5 question

This will be my first grow of any kind and I have soooo many questions, but first I'm going with an 8-bulb, 4,000 watt T5 setup to grow 10 lowryder#2xAK47 (Femanized)-I know many people frown when it comes to autoflower, but im a noob-it seems easy.

My question(s) is: First off, starting from the seedlings, how much of this T5 light will I need to use? All 8 bulbs? Only half at first? Should I use all 6,500 daylight for vegging?

And...my other ? is: Whats the best way to start sprouted seeds? Can I plant them directly into a 1 gallon or even 3 gallon pot? Dont really understand the advantages of using the jiffy pots to start...any other help regarding autoflower or T5 is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Col.Forbin

hi there. to start out you dont have to have the lights on until the seeds pop from the ground, and even then maybe 2 bulbs until they get their first set of leaves. around the 2nd set you can pop in the rest to start the real vegging power. if you have all one one spectrum (6500) thats fine, if you have 2 or 3 flowering bulbs you can switch some of those in, plants like a light mixture of wavelengths.

the reason people start plants in smaller pots is usually to save space, especially if you dont have feminized seeds and dont know if youll have to toss out half the plants. Also some people change soil mixes from vegging to flower stages (like in organic growing), so upgrading to larger pots allows a new soil mix to be made for the plants. however, since you have feminized seeds (and im assuming you are keeping the same soil mix and just adding liquid nutrients), personally i would just plant them in the biggest pots you can to fit all those plants in. 3-5 gallon would make them very happy. lots of space for the roots :-). good luck my friend keep us updated!

Hi col. I germinate my seeds in wet paper towel inside a bag or container. Make sure you keep them in a warm place. Once they have a tap root about 1/4 long sticking out plant them in soil tap root down.

Going from a small pot to a med pot then to a large pot help create a stronger root system which is another reason alot of people do it.
