Default investing in LED

im tired of all the debate over LEDs. im getting some of my own and im going to test it out first hand as soon as i can afford to... i have faith in these babies.... im gonna run a led flowering at the same time as a hps/mh flowering with the exact same nutrients/environment and compare yields. expect pics in 6 months lol.

That's the way to do it.I have been wondering about them myself.I have seen one guy growing with them. The plants looked good but it was on that other site that I'am kicked off so I dont know any more about it.If they do the job as good as cfl's than I may have to look at them more closely.I do know of a place here I did worked for too that builds amusement park games. The ones you see at the county fairs and carnivals, they have the led lights all over them.I may have a in for those leds if they work good. Please do the tests on those and post it here.We can make it a sticky if it all works out.I want to here more on this as you do it .I'll be watching for your post. PEACE

according to this 115lm/W is the best you can get Light-emitting diode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - but those LEDs are spendy and develop lots of heat - guess we had this topic a few times by now. if you have the money do it if you want...

i wanna do it myself too,
spent weeks readinn and searched the web
come across the sites of some real growers (the ones who grow tomato, cucumbers and orchid's... ya know)
the say the best there's are high power LED's -
those times more intense than 5 or even 10 mm's
in fact, single cree led light produce light 75 times of 5mm one!
and there's a 100w lamp on da market -
Procyon-100 100W LED Grow Light - HomeGrownLights.com
also i thougth ebay has best prices but some wholesalers
are even cheaper if you buy 10 or more.
i wanna get at least 12 to test with -
here they're
Red\Blue 168 Grow LEDs
on ebay ppl ask twice as much.
when you start testinn pls keep us informed.

you know what is funny about that one in your link? they don't state the lumen this thing emits - and someone that claims to quadruple the output of a 400W HPS with some 56 LEDs i can freely call a bold lier.

guys, cool down a bit - a HPS get 150lum/W that is to this day not topped by anything you can buy. end of the story - the rest is marketing, just hot air since people have to sell some BS.

peace

i agree on that,
but the thing is -
high power LEDs produce 75-80 lum/W
and that all is usable light
while with hps and other more powerfull lights
you use only a fraction of what the plant really need.
here's the research report from the source

these high power LEDs get mighty hot, so the need a active cooling system to run - and what gets so hot causes new trouble. and high end LEDs rate with 25000 to 50000h, the cost couple times more then a HPS, get less out in lumen and create you a complete new heat problem - besides that they hardly run as long as 2 HPS bulbs will do for a fraction. and that they produce so much more usable light, well that is already so... that the mythbusters should take care of that sorry

in my view those things aren't ready to do the task today, they will do it in a few years for sure but today it would be money well wasted.
