I know its different from veg to flower, but what would be the ideal balance for each? given the size of the cab of course.

Typically you want red in flower and blue in veg.

I like to add some blue to my red in flower with cfl's.

I am not sure what adding red to the blue in veg would do.

I would think it would make an improvement becuase the light is closer to what the sun puts out.

I agree with the 1 blue to 2 red ratio in flower. I have done that and prefer it.
As for the 2 blue to 1 red ratio in veg I have not tried it.

I find adding a red 42w to every 2-15w blue during Veg gives thicker stocks. Just what I seen in my VegBox.

I am in a tight spot to mabey 3'w 3'l 6'h and i am using 3-42wCFL's= to 450w(low kelvin)red spectrum and 3-24wcfls= to 300w blue spectrum above a bubbleponics DWC setup im using this for 2 plants in veg then i will add either 4-42wCFLS or if weather permits the extra heat my 250w HPS . but the cfls seem to do great so far! i would do at least 84w of CFL per plant in veg = to 300w and 168w CFL for flowering .

Subject is how many CFL's for a 4x4 area.
Can never have to much light.
with 2 foot plants:
I say 8 250w CFL's should cover the tops.
And some small 42w here or there near the floor for lower branches.
LOL.

snaggy my theory is just enough to keep from blowing the circuit braker....

I have a 4x8x8 enclosed tent grow room. I only use just one side at present 4x4x8...

I am a newbie at growing and this is my first grow.

I have 3 plants DWC buckets 5 gal each into flowering.

One of my buddies here kindly referred to them as nice palms when they were small... lol

I just wish I could remember who it was... he would be surprised now... on one of the palms I counted over 100 nuts and stopped counting at about half way.

I use 2 Multi Spectrum 315 watt cfl's 20,000 advertised lumens over 2 plants.

I have 4 Multi Spectrum 105 watt single cfl's hanging down into the plants. 2 reds to 1 blue bulbs for flowering...

later this week I plan to add 1 more 315w for the third plant and 3 more 105 w hanging down into the plants.

In other words

3 - 315's (3 bulbs in one reflector total 9 bulbs)
7 - 105's (1 bulb in one reflector)

That would be 16 total bulbs which I am told each bulb produces 7500 lumens and don't hold me to it... should equal 120,000 lumens for 3 plants.

So far I am very happy... I have certainly made numerous mistakes along the way but they are still alive and doing fine I think for a first grow....

good luck !!!

...murf

heck i can't stand it I will show you my palms... they are not here anyway...

nothing like being a prowd first time daddy...
