Cool Does color really matter?

A local hydro shop owner told me the other day that photoperiod is the key to flowering and that flowering with a blue spectrum would produce more blooms and less veg. Has anyone tried this or have I just been handed a new (Groovy, dude!) experiment?

There is some debate out there about which color is best for Fruit/flower.
I have seen better results with red than blue.. I am a huge fan of HPS. although I do use CLF's 2-15watt blue's to every 42watt red for veg..

Cool Getting second opinions...

... is why I came here to seek advice, Shaman. The hydroshop guy could have easily tried to sell extra bulbs, if not a whole second floro fixture. He said that blue was all you need, so I doubt selling was on his mind. He might have just heard a rumor, or he might have just been BSing me. Everything I have ever seen disagrees with him, so who knows?... Thanks for letting me know about your color mix setup..now I'm intrigued....

ive always heard, you want a slightly higher concentration of red spectrum around 2500k for flowering. and blue around 5500k for veg.

That part is right. The red color comes in because near the end of the flowering period the suns rays are more reddish than blue, so plants have come to expect that over the last couple million years. BUT, plants are in general better able to utilize blue light, and because of that I have heard that they may have smaller but more potent buds.

Thats just rehashing some things I have read over the past year or so online, so take it with a grain of salt.

yes i've heard this too, more like the harvest red sunset kind of light.

here is a chart showing levels of photosynthetic active radiation. it indicates levels of chlorophyll production in plants in general at different hue of light. i hope this helps you 4kaan.

Cool Time to experiment

I think I will try a grow using predominantly (altough not completely) blue light for flowering and see how it goes. Stands to reason that as the seasons progress light will become redder simply because the sun drops lower in the southern sky from late summer to winter. Being an annual, ganja would surely respond to this change with an "Oh crap! I'd better get busy and make some seeds!" I would wonder if lowering the temp of the flowering area would produce the same change or maybe just not as much. So many questions, so many parameters to alter. This should be big fun!

i did the flowering under 6500K tubes and can tell you that the outcome is not much compared to a grow that been flowered in the right spec. you can flower this way but you not getting to far with it.

have a look at the thread from back then: http://www.greenpassion.org/indoor-g...-strictly.html
