Default CFL setup ?

I'm going to use a 3 light socket adapter plate thing, with 2 way splitters, for a total of 6 lights.

I'm using 4: 26 watt(100) 6500K on the ends

my question: should I go with one big 46 watt(120 total) 2700K cfl for the middle, or 2 26 watt (100) on a splitter?

I'll switch to HPS when I flower.

Cake, I think it is better to gradually build up to more light. Yes, more is better, but new seedlings can't take too much light for the first bit. I mean if say you have six at first, well, there are only 6 little pots. You don't need 6 bulbs say the first week. As they get stronger, the plants will tell you when they need more light so add them as they grow. You don't want to burn your new babies.

if you go with the smaller wattages, they're easier to find and, because they are less powerful, they are less hot, individually.

ask yourself this, would it be better to have 1 point of light over the very top of the plant or would you rather split the power and kinda wrap it around the top of the bud, if you know what i mean

so, to sum up, if you already have the 46 watter, use it, if not, get 2 bulbs instead, you'll also find that the 46 watter is gonna cost you around $10.00 for 1 bulb whereas the 23 watters typically come in three packs for $6 or $7, more watts for the buck

ideally, if you can afford it, the Metal Halide during veg is considered the way to go, i guess it depends on your goals, if you're looking for quantity then definately go with the MH if you can. if quantity isn't an issue, only quality, then you can grow more than you can smoke with CFL's, even for flowering, the quality will be just as good as the genetics allow, you just won't yield as much, your buds will be smaller and less dense

anyway, good luck

awesome answers guys! exactly what I wanted to know! thanks much. I came from rollitup and they are not nearly as helpful as you folks here.

I was gonna do MH, through that dual setup, but since it wasn't as effecitve as it could be, I'll just CFL now.

your welcome cake and CFL's and bagseed is a good way to go until you know for sure growing is for you, you can always upgrade down the road, by then you'll want to throw down on some quality genetics as well.

just make sure you have sufficient ventilation or the heat will become an issue.

One thing, Cake: Make sure you get a hi low thermometer. I got one from Home depot, and one from Rona. It is digital and a life saver. Maybe 15-20 bucks at the most. Put it where your plants will be, and check it all the time for 24 hrs. IMPORTANT! Do a period of time without your babies in there so you know what temps you are dealing with. Then you can fix up your ventilation before it gets vital, and your exhaust.

I have a feeling a lot of people underestimate heat and venting, eh? I'll def make that higher up on the list of priorities then. thanks for the advice. I'm probably gonna go to lowes this week and pick up my lights. I'll guess I'll start with 3: 2 whiters ones, and redder one, and then add 3 more as the plants get bigger stronger.

still need to make that cab. i know ive asked this in another thread, but with a total of 6 cfls, what size should I make this cab? I might do a BOG, but at the least, I'll still stick a screen in there to threa dthe plants through so I can control height. (i mean, thats sorta the point of the screen right? control hieght and make sure all buds get equal access to lights?)
