Default Cfl

Hiya Gp hope every one is have a good day , i jsut wanted some quick advice from members and the team , i bought a 250w blue spectrum cfl for vegging , and to my surprise it was huge , i didnt expect it to be that big . but anyways speaking with a couple of people who gave me great advice this still would be a good post for other people to benefit from , as the cfl is powerfull i wont be putting seedlings or clones under it , how long should i wait before my seedlings or clones are strong to be put under this light , and secondly when they are under this light what distance should i keep from plant to light , i know pople say use the heat test with your hand , but sureley if to close still lumens could affect it and cause it to wilt ? thanks for the look people and look forward to some great advice

Just kidding about the physical size. The word compact just doesn't fit that watermelon headed thing.. I would n't be afraid to put seedlings under it , I'd start'm at 24" and lower the bulb as they node up. Your bulb is putting out what my CF bath bar fixture puts out with 10 bulbs...

Maybe it's a UK thing Shane,I've got two 125's for vegging almost as big and two monster 200's for flowering. My 125's are about 4 inches above my seedlings which are sitting on a small table, next to a 5 week old plant.I'm trying to find a way to get them nearer.6 or 7cm below the lights is fine.

Cheers,Tumnus.

I've read a lot of comments from folks who think CFL's can't cut it and are no good for flowering.Believe me,my plants grew like they should in veg and now that they are in flower under two of those beasts, they're looking very good indeed and the electricity saving is brilliant.

Cheers,Tumnus.

Thats 2 feet away? I'd guess thats farther than needed,
mine start at 18" from a 400w and they do fine.

That's seedlings,Shane, once they get to around 10cm I lower my lights to about 10cm above them.Check them regularly for signs of heat stress and you'll soon be able to judge how close to keep them.
You've got to keep on top of it though, specially after feeding as they can shoot up really quick.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,Tumnus.
