Default Trim after Drying?

I have a friend who wants to trim his harvest after he drys it, Not exactly sure of his motivations but he asked me what i think. I thought of all the dry trichs breaking off as the buds were trimmed that would have stayed on if they were trimmed before hanging but i can't say i have ever tried drying first so i can't speak from experience.

Does anyone do it that way? Anyone who would care to chime in on the matter i would appreciate the input.

I would have to agree with you password. Everything I have read or watched in regards to trim said do it wet. I have yet to have a harvest but this is what I have seen.

Yeah i know that trimming wet is certainly the norm. I do admit that i know a couple people that dry first but they are less concerned with quality then other factors. I suspect that they started doing it that way to save time on the trim.

I do however wonder if the time that leaving all the leaves attached will add to my dry will somehow help things by slowing down the drying. I have heard that a slow dry is best and mine is usually 3-4 days till the stems snap so maybe it will help.

I prefer to trim while the harvest is still wet, to help keep the bud from molding during the drying process.

i have tried your friends method.. let me say i only tried once.

once dry the leaves tend to be a bit brittle and dry. it makes it extremely difficult in situations to get the leaves off the buds cause they creased and dried ont them.. literally wrapping themselves on some buds

even when this doesnt happen like you said when trimming dry bud you will loose many , many resin glands from the buds. why do it if its so easy and buds are alot more giving to being handled when wet?

Yeah i think this plan was pain inspired, We spent hours on the floor last time and when we were done standing alone was difficult. Perhaps if i bring him some new scissors, a folding card table and chair it would help talk him out of it. Maybe if i can't totally talk him out of it i can convince him to experiment on just a small portion of the crop.

The reason to trim after drying is to slow down the drying process and end up with a smother product, but comes with the down term that the entire trimming process gets quite difficult. On the other hand, if you spiral twist stems of fan leaves they will now snap off right at the base, so it depends on the bud a little as well, a indica strain will cause less trouble then a sativa.

Trimming before drying speeds up the drying process and reduces the risk for catching mold as you remove foliage and water deposits by trimming away leaves and stems. Yet the fast you dry you bud the harsher the smoke will be, but the work is done easily as everything is still moist and soft.

I personally semi trim kind off, i will take off all big fan leaves and trim back the smaller stuff but only to bud surface, not digging for the stems or starting fingers in the buds, and let the entire branches dry. I rather spend some more time curring then on the mess of trimming dry bud, especially with sativa heavy strains.
