This is from my poor and weak memory but from much research and experience. It is not a cut and paste.

EVERY GROWER needs that $ 9.95 Radio shack microscope at harvest time.
Pot gets us high by giving us THC and something else called canabanol. There's a couple of other things in pot that gets us high, but that is the basic two. AGAIN an expert can tell you more or cut and paste it here.
Most of the good THC we desire is in the trichiomes. Smoking or ingesting cooked THC gives us a heady high. A high that is giggley. We laugh for no reason except we feel good when high from THC. The THC lowers our blood sugars.
A THC high makes us creative, and we get ideas, like I want to make a painting or do some art. I want to build a model car or model boat. I want to write a poem. I am going to finish that ironing or finish that chore or write a novel. I 'm going to learn to play the guitar.
The canabanol comes mostly from the resin or oily part of the pot. It gives us the body high. It relieves pain and it makes us lazy. It gives us the "couch lock" high, or the "glued to the sofa" high. It affects our muscles and lowers our blood pressure. It makes us NOT think or have thoughts. Or you think I am going to just sit here, or you think I 'm so stoned that I can't get up and go pee.
Two different distinct highs!
We normally smoke commercial grade pot, harvested cause it quit growing and gaining weight. It is a mix of buds and leaves. We don''t want to waste it, so we smoke it all, leaves and all. When it was harvested, the trichiomes had aged and turned dark brown, after absorbing the resin and canabanol. We get a mix of the two highs, the THC High and the Canabanol High.
When an EXPERT GROWER and educated knowledgable GROWER grows pot, he can seek and achieve different kinds of highs from his GROW by harvesting by the color of the trichomes. This can be done by observing the trichomes under a cheap lighted microscope.


This is somewhat a debateable subject, but 90% of the Expert Growers will agree with me here.

OLD-TImers harvest by the color of the pistals or stigmas, sometimes called the hairs, in slang. Educated Growers go by the trichiomes. Again, it is arguable and debatable.
If you harvest the buds when the trichomes are all clear, I mean clear as glass so you see thru them, then you get a HEADY, CEREBRAL Light High, a non-body high, from the pot. You can smoke a J and do saturday chores, or go do something creative.
About the 6th, to 7th or 8th week of FLOWERING, the trichomes start getting AMBER, or the color of beer. GROWERS tell the BUD LIGHT joke here. I want my trichomes the color of BUD LIGHT ! Then they get CLOUDY, and look like the color or semen. Then at the 8th to 9th to 10th week, they get darker and darker and get brown.
DARK trichomes give you that "Tied to the sofa, I can't get up off the sofa" BODY high.
This varies according to strains, and whether it is Sativa or Indica.

I enjoy labeling my jars "clear trichs" and "dark trichs" and "mixed trichs" just to be able to achieve different highs.

one thing though is when you harvest at all clear, your potency is next to nothing. at all cloudy, your potency is about half strength, and at 50/50 cloudy/amber you get almost full potential.

if you don't like couch lock highs, grow a heady sativa and harvest at 50-50

i am aiming to grow or create my own strain that is a super head high, something that'll make you laugh like your on acid, inspire you like you just got your head around the universe, something that you can smoke a few joints and crave being around people.

love to get some recommendations for strains etc.

I just got one about 6 weeks ago, my son bought it for me from ebey. It is 4 x 6 inches, 100% acrylic and I just love it. He paid $26 plus shipping and it is a 100 micron screen. The seller there makes them. Google "ebey, kief box" to find them. I have pics of it at HASH Thread.
This week a new store opened near me, called StarShip so i had to go there. They had a line of 3 kief boxes, all similar, made by WICCA. They had them marked HALF Price too. They were small, medium and large, and the medium was marked $65, half off for $32.50 so I got it cause it is bigger. It is beautiful too and came with some useful tools. I posted a thread about it this week with pics, called KIEF, I think. (I'm stoned now) If you google "WICCA, Boxes" you will find it, the medium size is $40. I'm going to shake some or lots of my pot thru it tonight. I LOVE HASH! Especially if I have not smoked a joint, or any pot. The giggley high, the cerebral high, the getting creative and philisopical high .......I just love it !

i will have to agree with you on the after 6pmcouch lock, no better way to relaxe after a hard days work then light up, lay back, ann setle in for the lock.

Murphy if either one of us gets the strain right well have to hook the other up with some seeds to make the ULTIMATE strain.

I sat on the sofa last night for two hours, and ran two ounces of trim leaves through my box. I almost gave them away when I saw a post reminding me I could get the kief off of them and make Hash. I had considered the "ice water" process, glad I didn't, that's a mess and COLD too. I did read to freeze my leaves first and I am glad I did, the resin glands just fell off! I made pics and I forgot to grab the camera and bring them to the office where I have a fast connection for uploading.
I'll post them tomorrow. I got about a heaping tablespoon, fluffed up. I just know I'll get a gram or two of HASH..

So you can freeze the leaves and the trichs fall off. I love this being lazy any shortcut is great.

What I freely have been given let me freely share

I froze my trim leaves, they all were trimmed off buds at harvest. Frozen makes them release easier.
I raked them around in the box, on top of the screen, and I got over two spoon fulls of kief to make HASH out of.

now to get me one of those magical boxes.

You can buy silkscreen and make a frame OR as someone else posted here, just put the pot (freeze it first) in a wide mouth jar, with a rubber band and silk screen over the jar opening and shake it. I tried it and it works but not as good as a framed sieve or strainer or box. I like rolling a joint in my box and knowing my trichs are falling thru and making kief that will make hash.
