Smoking water cured bud

I water cured a few buds of chronic and dried it yesterday. I'll have to admit the potency is there, but the taste is awful!! It tastes like burnt straw. I think I'll use it for cooking.

Maybe wait another day hang drying, drying it for 2 days was key for me.

i to dont like water cure..iactually have a half oz of some water cured i just dont want it...use for some canna butter i suppose...i used 2 different systems 1 was a strait food dyhdrater an that sucked then couple hours in the food dy then fan dried for 2 days..didn't like earthir...peace 2

i like it from time to time, my big bud develops a quiet fruity smell over time and the taste is light - bit like light tobacco, wouldn't say that it tastes like straw. my guess to this, either chronic isn't responding well to this treatment or which is more likely to me: your curing is perfected yet, either on the curing itself or the later drying and and storing. i learned on all the water-curing attempts i made so far that you have to cure for at least 7 days and not more the 14, the water has to be switched at least all 48h and hand warm water all the way. and the buds have to be cured in a dark and cool spot too or you get only shit in the end...

to drying, tricky - i used so far the my oven, took the bulb out and let it run for some hours on hot-air without any heat, worked well... but there are for sure other ways too.

This is how I did it....

The buds (3 small ones) went straight from plant to r/o water in a mason jar with top left off. I placed the jar in a cabinet that doesn't get opened. Everyday I (or Mr) changed out the water and replaced with r/o. We did that for 7 days. On day 7 I placed the wet buds on a plate and put it on top of the 400w HPS light for approx 6 hours. I then put the buds in a sealed plastic bag overnight. I think I may have left it on the light for too long because they were extremely dry.
Any ideas on where I went wrong?

Yes I do...using the light is where you went wrong.
Next time, try hanging em for two days.
Also a food hydrator, I am told works well too, but I've always hung mine for the two days. after one day, I didnt like the taste, after two days..it was perfect.

try it and you will love it even more, with the big one you can dry about half a pound of bud at once (dry weight after using it, missed to weigh it ahead of drying, my guess it been about 2 pounds initially.) with 3 big standing fans i dried this amount in 48h! (which was a bit too long drying actually, now curing is going damn slow...) and the piece is cheap, less the 10 bucks - and fans everyone has sitting around in the first place
