So when you use a film canister, about how much ground up material did you put in? and did you use a whole can of butane for extraction? About how much did this leave you with for oils? Im curious because i want to make a smaller one for sticky gooey nugs right off the plant for some SUPER SUPERB OIL!

Be very careful using film canisters as they can have silver nitrate in them as well, from the film. I remember that from when I used to make baby food, it was something not many people knew that even a small amount can do serious damage. Wash well many many times before use. Better to use a med bottle, like a pill bottle.
Peace

Peace | Good call J!
Im actually going on another batch this week. However, it's a lot of trim so i may do the iso method.
I personally think the butane creates a much more pure and refined oil. The butane shoots through there quickly taking with it all the essential oils. The iso method calls for a "soaking" method in wich i think extracts a lot more unwanted material in your oil. When you soak ANYTHING in alcohol for 5 hours, your going to get a lot more extract than you think, off your product. But it will be a lot of unwanted extract. Headache material, i like to call it.
However, have fun trying to extract oils from a pound of weed with the butane method, it'll take all day.
Iso method would fit better for a large amount of material to be worked with.

Well this looked just too cool so I had to try it.
Constants:
1 oz of product per run
450 ml of butane per run
doubled coffee filter paper new per run
1 honeybee extractor
1 small bottle type extractor
1 PVC pipe type extractor
3 types of butane used: Colibri, Ronson, Xikar
13 X 1oz runs
Things learned:
Ronson butane = kaka don't use even as a last resort.
Colibri and Xikar were super clean.
Need a better filter material as it does let a small amount
of plant matter through(not green) looks like celouse.
No biggy as it clumps itself and is easy to remove.
Honeybee and jar type were too small, 10" pvc was
a much better size.
Small drain holes(needle) are better than larger ones, I
suspect this allows a longer contact time inside the extractor.
The best yeild to buzz ratio was achieved when the
butane was applied in 4 bursts with a quick shake
of the extractor in between.
Tilt the evaporation bowl so there will be a lot less scraping
when its done.
Personally, do NOT heat the end mixture to speed evaporation
of the butane.
Runs that had even a modest water bath were darker than runs
that were not.
Um, there was sonething else...
oh ya,
BOLY FLURKIN SNIT!
dat some killer oil dar boy! butaneoil2b-1

YEZZZZIIR!!!
nice nice, yea man looks like you got everything on piont!
except one thing for me, personally, is i try to aim for minimal contact time to avoid unnessessary extract... like chloro, ect...
it is why i stay away from iso, much less by-product.

I like the method, see it once before .. love the product.. have you tried to freeze the metal bowl, it makes the extract hard... and you can scrape it off the bowl in chunks.. or flakes . I found that this product is easier to work with cold

I've used a broken pencil torch with the torch head taken off. Lightly pack cut but not powdered product into the pencil torch body and put a piece of cheese cloth held on by rubber bands to hold the product in. Lay a clean piece of glass out flat then point the torches butane filler nozzle up and act just as you would filling a lighter. Squirt the butane onto the glass until the butane runs clear. What you will have on the glass is pure oil with a few microscopic pieces of flower pollen. Very fast and clean. No dangerous cook off of naphthalene.

thats cool, yea all butane extractions come out the same no matter what kind of device you use, what going to increase quality is using the best butane you can find. Has anyone ever smoked pure white oil before? and I dont mean from cold water extraction, i mean from butane. It can be done, but time consuming. Im trying to get my hands on ethenol, there is also a c02 extraction also similliar to this method.
