Talking POTENT oil extraction made e-z G.P EXCLUSIVE!!

Hey there all you tokin' smokin' and chokin' hippies! First off, Welcome to my "E-Z Oil Extraction" tutorial, found here, only on Green Passion. I hope this super easy guide brings you many evenings filled with all kinds of fun and all kinds of munchies. (Not to mention, your back WILL be just fine for the next 4 hours during these fun times)

I've had just about every medical concentrate there is from Bubble Hash, to Tinctures, both alcohol and glycerin, from delta-9 to frozen trichomes.

This method had made it's place as my favorate concentrate to make with all my "extra" greenery when that time of the year arrives.

With this method, I throw it ALL in there: cut up stems, fan leaves, water leaves, sugar leaf (sweetleaf) and sometimes some nugs.

Either way, with this method ALL you get is the very sacred "oils" that are found within the cannabis plant. There are certain beneficial parts of the plant that contain slightly different cannabinoids we tend to miss out on when we only smoke the flowering parts of the plant. This way, we get ALL those oils that are found throughout the entire plant.

The overall amount at the end is not astounding, so dont expect a large amount of hash in return, but rather a smaller amount of a much more purified and potent glob of thick oil which is very easy to work with using just a paper clip and a flame.

You will not need much for this, for I said it was the EASY method, not easy as in, "a list of 50 things you will need", no. Easy as in, your most likely to already have what you need around the house, besides a can of butane.

So, lets get started. And I welcome all comments and suggestions with open arms, but please wait until the end, thanks and ..........................STAY GREEN!!

***NOTE, please scan this page & look at the bold stuff quickly beforehand to make sure you have (or can easily get) the basic stuff necessary...nothin out of the ordinary, but a quick trip to the grocery store/corner store may be necessary the first time you do this....again, this is designed to be super simple, and once you do it the first time, you will have all the stuff sitting around, ready to be re-used again and again!

Exclamation you will need...

Grab a simple jar, container, or PVC pipe (if you want to get creative), but it must be strong and have one end removable...(see pictures on bottom)

You will also NEED a coffee grinder to turn your plant matter into fine powder. The finer the powder consistency, the more essential oils you can get out of the process. It should look something like this....

You will also need something to make holes (a drill is best); however I dont have a drill, and I have always used exacto-knives to make precise holes with no problems (see pics below). I also use an exacto-knife to make the holes for my deep water culture tubing and they are perfectly snug around whatever tubing I use.

You will need a coffee filter (disposable or reusable). I think the reusable ones work a little better, but no biggie.

You will also need about an ounce or more of trim and buds (its your choice)

A can of butane is the main thing you might have to buy....

In addition, you also need a pot to boil water, and a smaller metal bowl/pot that will fit inside the pot of boiling water (scan down the page a little ways for pics of that part of the process)

also, grab an exacto knive or drill or something to make holes....

Finally, grab an aluminum can (that you can cut in half) or a bottle cap to hold the finished oil (or if you have something better, get creative!)

I think that is everything...pretty simple....

But moving right along........

Exclamation Let's get started...

Ok, take your medical jar, container or PVC pipe and make a FEW holes in one end. Then make ONE hole in the removable end cap (for the butane spout). Be sure this hole is snug around the spout and will release the butane when pressure is applied once the spout is in the hole. (see pics below)

Take your coffee filter and trace a circle of the tube your using, then cut it out (so it fits on the bottom where you made the bunch of holes). This is super easy; the basic idea is to get the butane to go through this carefully and safe and collect all the oils on the way through.
(see pic below)

Exclamation Let's get our product in there...

ok fill er' up! Just fill up the jar with your ground up plant matter and put the cap on.

Lets start preparing for a few things.
First, we need to get some water heated up...Note: I like to use a WOK because it has a very large base/area so my metal bowl can fit inside it (which we use later), but essentially you need some sort of POT and a SMALLER METAL BOWL/container .

*****WARNING! BUTANE IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND SHOULD NOT BE HANDLED NEAR A STOVE, OPEN FLAME, OR IGNORAMUS*****

I figured I should throw that warning out there, because first and foremost, we want to ensure that everyone has a safe and healthful experience. Please use your head and do NOT smoke/light candles, incense, etc. throughout the duration of this procedure.

In addition, I have searched and searched for any kinds of trace elements that evaporated butane might leave behind, and my results are few are far. So in my book, this is a harmless extraction method (However, for obvious reasons I must omit any responsability from any damage that may occur as a result of misinterpretation, misuse or neglect)....alright, enough of the boring stuff, let's get back to extractin!!!!

Exclamation Extraction Needs To Be Done Outside!!!

Okay, now let that water heat up to almost a boil and just keep it there...now let's take a walk outside.

Thankfully, tonight for this photoshoot we just happened to get the sun as it was creating a beautiful sunset in the back... so rad.

(like my pansies and tomato plants?)

Now that we're outside it's time to EXTRACT!!
You will also need a metal bowl like this one that you can heat up.....

***Again, Make sure the metal bowl is smaller than the pot that is boiling, so you can set it inside the boiling water, later***

Wash it out good! (And dont get confused; this alcohol is not for that nasty iso-method that will leave a foul taste in your product, this iso alcohol cleans the bowl out very good).

FYI- when making oils, every storage container for the finished product should be metal so you can heat it up and work with the oil. (The first jar for the plant matter can be plastic)

Exclamation Please!!! Take Care In This Part!!

Ok, let's shoot that butane through the jar!
Notice I'm wearing gloves? The tube becomes VERY cold as butane moves through it and once you start, you dont want to stop until the can is empty, so plan ahead to have some sort of barrier if you don't have simple gardening gloves.

Your first time doing it, don't worry if it gives you a little scare and you stop...just shake it up a little and continue where you left off.

AGAIN, make sure there is no flame, fire, heat source, anything like that around.

OK like I said, once you start, dont stop until the can is done/empty. Try to shake it around a little and let the metal bowl collect all that yellow liquid.

The liquid will soon evaporate, this is where the hot water comes in place.

Go inside and get the pot of water you have heated up and put the metal bowl with the oil inside it, on top of the hot water, like this....

Once the metal bowl touches the hot water, the butane will rapidly start to dissolve into nothing leaving only the sacred cannabis oils we all love!

Once the liquid is gone and you cannot smell any butane whatsoever, we are ready to move on to the final steps!! Give it like 10 mins to evap completely after the majority of liquid is gone.

Exclamation This part is gooey..

If you find an easier way to work with this stuff lemme know, but heres what i came up with to collect it all.

just use a card to get it all into "clumps", then using a paper clip carefully scrape along the card collecting a "glob" of oil on the end of the clip or pin. You then would lightly WARM up the paper clip, with the flame about an inch or so away from the glob of oil, then it will drip onto the aluminum can (cut in half, horizontally...see below) or a bottle cap (remember, METAL is best for handling the gooey oils) This takes a while..

You wanna keep it in something metal because as the supply gets smaller from scraping it, you want to heat it up so it clumps up together again (since it is an oil-based product).

Once you get out all you can in your first scrapings, go heat it again inside your bowl of water and try another scraping. It works good for me once you get it to the right temp (easy to figure out)...

Metal soda caps work good but since they are small, I prefer to use a can. Just dont heat it up too much or it will start smokin!!!! You actually only need to "warm it up"...

REMEMBER- to collect it, dont heat it up too much. Once its on the tip of the pin or clip, just warm it up to let it drip off. Dont hold the flame on it until it drips, because thats too much and will cause it to burn up some of the oil on the tip of the pin or clip (it's really easy, just try it and you'll see what I mean).

Exclamation You ONLY need the smallest little drop!

the part I love best about this is THE TINY AMOUNT YOU NEED FOR A HIT!!!!

Like i said, im no fan of huge chunks of bubble hash on my piece, it messes with the taste of good bud.

This is all i use, and I have a pretty good tolerance...but hey, do whatever you want! (Just don't say I didn't warn ya!!!)

The only thing I like better than this stuff is frozen trichomes...but we buy those at a local dispensary for $60 a gram only because they are made from a very sophisticated extraction method that is extremely volatile and difficult to execute...in fact, only ONE single collective I have found actually has the extraction, as far as I have been able to discover....

All in all, this is a wonderful bang for your buck...and mighty simple, at that! You can be smokin and chokin this delightful oil in 30 minutes or less, if you got it all ready to go...and I am sure that once you try this method, you will have a new favorite, simple way to utilize all that extra trim and shake after a well-earned harvest.

Thats all my friends, I hope this helps many!

Please leave comments and feedback, good and bad!

Nice job bro!

Have you ever considered using pyrex rather than metal...to me it just seems the metal would be more porous than glass...glass seems like it might make it a bit easier to collect...I don't know this to be true...it's just a though.

awesome idea CAM, see- this is exactly what makes this site what it is. Good ideas only made BETTER!! I will try pyrex next time.

Credit goes to my wifey on the spelling and re-wording of some sentences i messed up. She went through and edited all of the spelling errors and such. THANK YOU BABE!

AWESOME Tute! Thank you so much for adding to our wisdom. It all helps.

I could even do this. LOL! I will have to go back and look at the tube you use, can you break it down and tell us how you made it please? And show the pieces? i didn't even pick up that it was a prescription bottle...LOL!

Thank you for sharing. Very much.

Peace

thanks J!

yea it all started when i seen someone do the extraction with a "honey bee" extractor kit bought for almost $50.00!!!

I knew i could make a much more cheap and effective way, it was such a simple concept.

After looking around, searching the net, and talking with a few "hash experts" i have seen other similar home made ways of doing the same thing, but i knew i could simplify it even more.

The over-sized medicine jar i had laying on my shelf gave me the idea.

I thought, hey most of us have one of these! You could even try making a smaller one with a regular sized medicine jar!

But thats pretty much all it is, just a plastic med. ar with childproof cap.
I started little pin holes with the exacto knife and just twisted it in 360 degree circles putting some pressure and eventually you have a perfect circle "drilled" through the plastic.

Another way would be to heat up a screwdriver with a lighter or candle and melt holes through. But i would be very carefull doing that! Especially with butane around!

I hope your happy when you do this, and YES you very well CAN do this! I have seen your Low Stress Training and the way you fix a broken stem... If you have the brain to acomplish growing techniques such as those, you can deffinately do this!

STAY GREEN!!

cool! thanks lucky, i'd love to see it become a sticky some time. I did not see one in the concentrate section for this method
Like i said though, much credit goes to the wifey for overlooking and editing the entire thread. My spelling and ways of wording things are not quite as good.
Thanks again for the kind words, means well my friend.

I would love to welcome your Lady wife to the site as she is such a good help mate to you. Please let me know if she is already a member and what her name is. We have several couples as well as single ladies here, and we do feel we always need more!

And thanks for the props on my LST'ing tutorial. I am trying to show people it is easy to do and does not take a lot of manual dexterity as some methods do. This makes many med patiants feel this technique is not do-able for them, but this way it is. It is all for communal good.

I will sticky this tutorial now as it can indeed help many.

So very glad to welcome another couple to the site.

You are both smart and very helpful, which is indeed what we try and promote here. That I feel,is what a Family is about, and GP is indeed a family.

Peace,

WOW thanks for making this a sticky! That made my day, gotta take a bong hit to that!

My Wifeys sitting right here with me and after reading your post she's about to make a profile now. She is on another forum but it's more of a local co-op/dispensary site and all the shops just update their menu and prices and such. But it's nothing like this, like a community of growers and good people all sharing ideas and tips.

And yes I do like your LSTing thread, I have 3 outside right now that are half way around 3 gallon pots. Once they make a full circle I will let the main branches grow up. Yours are a little ahead of mine so I would love to keep up with you and get an idea of what im in for, this is my first attempt dealing with LST.

Thanks again J, talk to you soon!

Hey Deep, just a thought on the spelling thing. If you use Microsoft explorer, you could add the Google Toolbar which has a Spell Checker in it.
More Google Products

Just in case your lady has something else to do while you are writing.
It's simple, just click and it shows you all the misspelled words. Right click the word and select the proper spelling to make the corrections.
