Default Pot percolator

About 40 years ago I read an artical in the L.A. Free Press. This story was about a method for extracting THC out of pot. This method used a hot plate, a distilling flask and coil, and alcohol. The pot is placed in a basket above the flask, the alcohol in the flask is then heated. The evaporating alcohol fumes are cooled and condensed by the coil. The condensed alcohol drips back thru the pot and into the flask, just like an old coffee percolater. After about 12 hours of this percolation, the alcohol has turned into a dark slime. At that point you pour the slime on a cooke sheet and let it dry. you ended up with a substance like hash but gooeyer like oil. I forget what they accully called it. Has anybody tried something like this? I know It would be a VERY DANGERIOUS thing to do. I also know ther are much safer ways, with less hassle.

I use to own an Isomiser II when I was a kid, which worked on pretty much the same principal as a coffee pot, unlike some of the older methods, this one was not pressurized, so it was relatively safe. I had a blast with that machine too.
Peace

I remember those , never tried one. Now I think just about everyone has bubble bags or a pvc butane oiler.

That sound very much like an over engineered method of making a simple tincture of Cannabis. I make a tincture with just about every harvest I have. If one is patient, there is a very simple method to make an excellent tincture.

I simply hand crush a small quanity of dried bud, and put it into a half pint mason jar. I add everclear to a level slightly above the cannabis, seal the jar tightly, and put it in a dark closet for three to four weeks: taking it out every few days to give it a good shake.
I'll strain the liquid thru a tea strainer into another container for use, and repeat the process a second time with the 'mash'.

Three quarter tsp of this tincture mixed into a small amount of another drink <it really tastes nasty> makes for a very relaxing, incredably different experience. For me, it takes 45 mins or so to become active, and is certainly one of my favorite ways to socially share my cannabis.

Of course, you can open the container and let the highly evaporative everclear do it's thing for a while; and you'll get that thick oily stuff you were referring to. I prefer it as a pure tinchure. It seems I always have enough trim to necessitate ice bags for hash...B

Everclear is a grain alcohol that is 190 proof (95% alchy). is strong, tastes terrible, and can screw you over real quick. naturally it is a favorite for us fraternity men in our jungle juice/jello shots. ;-)

Making a tinchure with as little water as possible is important, as to not to actually degrade the water based plant mass, <which can begin to decay> while using the alcohol as a solvent to dissolve the oil based canabinoids. I've attempted to use 80 proof <40% alcohol> vodka and rum, with less than pleasant results. As really raw tasting as everclear is, the almost water free alcohol level makes it perfect for making a pure tincture of cannabis.
I've known some people who will only soak their tincture for two weeks, which is fine, I simply want 'all of it'. lol There are also heat methods as well, but this style suits me the best.
I would suggest that on the first try of any new tincture, to take no more that one half tsp. I've on occasion had where even this small amount was a bit much, though it's slow warming and engulfing sensation makes ' a bit to much' ok. It's nothing like getting completely 'trashed' and zonked from strong smoke. Hope this has helped clarify some...B
