Post No Flush, Curing?

ok I have two questions,
1. What happens to your final product (granted you crued properly) if you dont flush ur palnt during the last couple of weeks?

2. What exatcly does curing do. (i mean, i dont want a dictionary definition, i want someone who has experienced this .)

If ya don't flush you might have that Nute taste..Nasty as HELL!!!

Buds should be cured (slow dried) to ensure that the marijuana is as potent and tasty as possible.

There is much discussion over this...basically, what happens when you re feeding nutrients to a plant is that a portion of the salts tends to adhere to the roots, hence, when you flush you wash off that unwanted material.

Some say that when using organics you don't need to flush...can't speak to that one, but I flush, anyway!

As you buds dry, they release moisture that they have accumulated. In the right conditions (see drying threads) 3-4 days of drying will get the bud to where the stems "snap", or close to it. Then, place it in the curing jars. In the vacuum of the curing jars the additional moisture that was deep in the buds, even if it felt very dry going into the curing jar, will come out and make the buds moist again. Opening the lid (burping) it will let in fresh air, and allow the moisture to evaporate off. Over days/weeks of this, the moisture is lowered to a very low level...making for a smoother and more (maybe) potent smoke. By lowering the weight/THC ratio the amount of THC per gram actually increases slightly, they say.

I cure for a smoother smoke...potency is not a big issue with me so long as it is kick-arse weed!

Default an impracticle test

my understanding and experience of curing is that it improves taste and makes the smoke smoother

I wonder if any organic (or even non-organic) growers would consider doing a double blind side by side taste test between flushed non-flushed plants grown side by side identical in every other way....have first person marks the budz A and B.....give them to a second person that has no idea which is flushed or not.....have that person give them to about thirty people (half try A first, half try B first) to see if they can distinguish A from B and if they have a preference..I am willing to bet that for organics the difference will be negligible, but for nutes there will be a real measurable preference for flush....but without a few trials that can be replicated its all just opinion, well informed opinion perhaps but opinion non the less. now as to health effects of flush, I think we need a lab analysis, but if that is too expensive look at the ash, dark ash with heavy smoke bad, light ash with thin smoke good...again use the double blind method to see if there is a real difference

two words burning quality
nuits arnt designed to be burnt, so the taste and rate that your weed burns is affected.
both curing and flushing are a matter of person taste, well cured weed will ensure a clean easy burn from your weed. no to mention added taste characteristics

You have had many excellent responses. I would like to add one more thing just from my point of view.

Just by withholding all nutes and giving only water & 1 tablespoon of molasses per gallon of water you are giving your plants the extra boost of carbs they need during those last couple of weeks they are in flower.

You are also helping to ensure that you won't be smoking any nutes. They are for your plants not to be inhaled in your weed. Who knows what lovely things they might do to your insides?

The proper curing ensures that the smoke doesn't taste like hay and that you will experience it's ultimate potency and burn smooth without having to relit or the entire bowl being gone in one little hit.
