I'm going to tell you what I know from memory, instead of copying and pasting info here. This is from a lot of research but I am a stoner and very forgetful.
Hash is what you make from 100% trichomes, also called the kief, or the what some call the crystals off of the pot. HASH is a compressed dried, hard cake or brick or clump of these trichomes. When buds start maturing, you see them, the trichomes, all over the plant, especially on the buds or female flowers and on the small leaves near the buds and flowers. Outside America, people call them resin glands.
They appear like minature crystals to the naked eye, They sort of look like salt crystals to the naked eye, but much smaller. Under a weak magnifying microscope (30X to 60 X) or a very strong magnifying glass, they look like litle minature tubes, or stalks. (again google will show you pics). My wife says they look like little clear uncircumcised penises.
They first appear clear, then they get amber and cloudy, but this can only be seen if magnified. To the naked eye, they sparkle. Under a microscope, they don't sparkle.
Expert growers determine when to harvest by observing the trichomes under a microscope.
I bet 99% of the expert growers here own a $9.95 RADIO SHACK battery lighted microscope just for the purpose of looking at the trichiomes.
These trichomes, or kief, AFTER they are gathered, (do a google on kief) are gathered many primative ways, varying from country to country. In America, we've devised a more scientific way and especially a more efficient way to gather them and make them into HASH. HASH is a compressed product or derivitive from the kief. You gather the kief, and then do the cellophane procedure of packing the kief in cellophone from a pack of cigarettes. You squeeze it tight, pack it hard by rolling it up, and wrap it in wet newspaper. Then you bake the newspaper at 175 degrees in an oven, drying it out. The moisture leaves the kief and it hardens into a cake or brick.
In some foreign countries, they beat the fresh dried stalks of plants over a very large frame stretched with a silk woven cloth. The trichomes pass thru the silk cloth and are caught on a white cottom cloth under that silk screen. In some countries they use the "hand rubbed" method of using both hands to rub the colas on the plants , in the fields, vigorously back and forth, allowing the sticky trichomes to stick to their hands. Then they squat down and rub their hands together over a spread out white cotton cloth allowing the droppings to accumlate.
Either or anyway they gather them, then they go thru the cellophane baking process, and pack or compress them into cakes or bricks.
If you use a very small micron screen, (small holes) you get just the trichomes, and you get a blonde or gold HASH. (Blonde Lebonese is the ultimate to me) If you use a large micron screen with larger holes, then micro-parts of the leaf dust also get in it and you get a dark green HASH, like Afgani Hash. In Mexico, they use window screen and get a low grade HASH that is not so good at all.

Here, in America, we use gravity. There is a DRY way and a WET or WATER or ICE WATER way to collect them. ICE WATER Extraction is best, IF you are in a hurry, in my opinion. You can make a spinner bucket to gather them. Place a small one gallon bucket in a 5 gallon bucket, with a crank handle and gears to spin the small bucket inside the big bucket. The small bucket has cut outs, or large holes, covered in silk screen, that you buy from the T Shirt silk screen painter. You put the pot in the small bucket, spin it around and gravity throws the pot against the sides and the trichomes pass thru the screen, into the larger bucket. This is a DRY method. OR you can use ice water in the buckets. FROZEN pot releases the trichomes easier, they are not as sticky. You fill the small bucket with ice water, with ice in it too, put in the pot, and stir it with your hand round and around. I have almost lost my hand doing this, it is SO VERY COLD. I've seen 50 different ways to do this, and without pics, it is hard to explain. But I think you can picture it. ITube has many videos showing this.
I also saw a DIY 5 gallon bucket that was sideways, instead of sitting up and down. The bucket was over a tray. The bucket had many 4 by 4 inch holes cut out of the sides, the holes covered with silkscreen. You put a metal wire or pole thru the middle of the bucket, like a rotiserre. You turn or spin the bucket very fast by hand with a crank or you can motorize it with a electric ice cream maker. It spins and the trichomes pass thru, into the tray.
You can also buy silk screen and beat your buds against it in a frame. It is best to freeze the pot first. Frozen trichiomes are not as sticky and are released much easier.
I have a small box, about 4 by 7 inches in size, three inches thick. In the middle is a removable shelf of silk screen tray. Costs $26 on ebey. I lay a bud on the screen, in the box, and shake it. And everyday I roll a joint and replace the bud with tomorrow's bud. (I'll get some pics here soon) AFTER about two months, I look in the bottom of my box under the screen, and find about a half a gram of kief! TA DA, then I use your cellophane method to make me some HASH. You can just add the kief to a joint, but then you miss the certain high that only HASH gives. If you just smoke the kief in a pipe, it burns too fast. So you make a dried cake of it, called HASH.

In the pics you see my kief box, the second pic shows the tray open that catches the keif after it falls thru the screen. Inside the box, you see a small piece of a bud laying on the screen. The box was a DIY home made that I bought on ebey for $26.95. He says he sells a dozen a day.

I got a new Kief box, (google WICCA, Boxes) and it's bigger.
I froze two ounces of dried trim leaves, they all were trimmed off buds at harvest.
I raked them around in the box, on top of the screen, and I got over two spoon fulls of kief to make HASH out of.

Isn't that just a box that catches the goodies that fall thru the silkscreen? Hubby made one. Real easy. But we did order the silk screen it's self from Denco in Portland Oregon. Measures about 2 x 2 ft. cost was about $25 including shipping. Then just make a box a little bigger with a lip inside to hold the silkscreen up off the bottom of the box.

That is where all your wonderful keif falls.

Well, I've learned a lot more about this HASH making. Like mama said, there is more than one way to skin a cat!.
Here I am discussing HASH making.


Price:$65.00

This is a WICCA Kief box, the very best one on the market. There is one slightly larger and one slightly smaller, and you'll need one to make HIGH GRADE blone Lebonese or Blonde Afganey Hash. You can buy them at a "head shop" or "smoke shop" or "herbal accessories" store or order them off the internet. I have used a GRINDER Box or Spaceship Box. They make low green or brown grade hash, a lower grade of HASH. It is still very good tho, just not as pure.

Everyday, I use my box as a rolling tray, and roll me a Joint, over the screen. I roll one or two joints a day and at the end of 2 to 3 weeks, I can gather a gram of KIEF for making HASH.

At Harvest, I save my trim leaves, the leaves from manicuring my buds, and I DRY them, VERY DRY, and I crumble them, and RAKE them over my screen in my box, for about ten mintues, per 4 heaping table spoons full of dried, crushed trim leaves. YUM, YUM!

With my left over fan leaves from my HARVEST, I make OIL. The left over trim leaves are for making HASH.
Those CRYSTALS, (slang term) on the leaves are called trichomes, while they are still on the leaves. In Europe, they call them resin glands. AFTER you remove them, they are called KIEF.
After you bake them, into a lump or chunk or cake, they are called HASH. That is where the HEADY HIGH THC is.

Most people make HASH a difficult way, called Bubble Hash with ICE and Ice water and BUBLE BAGS. If you google HASH, youtube, you can watch 300 videos on how to make hash. The most difficult way is BUBBLE hash with ice water. You get very cold almost frozen hands, and you waste or use uup all your buds. I use a strainer, or filter or screen, that is in my kief box, to remove them and that way I still have my buds to smoke and I don't get frost bite.
MUCH EASIER FOR ME!. Get a kief box of a permanent metal coffee filter and I'll help you. It is easy the way I do it!

I also saw a dude take a Pringles Potato chip tube, and clean it out, dry it, and tghrow his FROZEN buds in it. He stretches a panty hose over the end of the tube, secures it with a rubber band, and SHAKES the trichs out onto a mirror.

For HASH Oil, I use the old way of processing with Alcohol. It is safer than using butane or highly flamable liquids. (many will argue against using alcohol tho)

All you will need is some 100 or 90 proof isophyl alcohol.
Remember the FAN leaves need to be dried.

And you will need a PERMANENT COFFEE FILTER........ABOUT $3 AT WALMART.
HASH OIL is not really hash oil. It is the oil of the leaves. They just call it HASH OIL.

Very simply, keep your FAN or SHADE leaves from the HARVEST.. The leaves that do not have visible trichomes on them. Put them in open shoe boxes or card board boxes, in the dark, in a dark room, or under the bed. Let them dry for 7 days, stir them daily, to make sure they are dry and do not mold.
You fill 1/4 to half a blender full of the crumbled dried leaves.
You add half a bottle of alcohol, the highest strenght you can find.
BLEND them up. Add some move leaves and alcohol and blend them some more. I blend for a solid minute.
Get a NON-DISPOSABLE coffee filter, it is micro-fine, and strain them, keeping the liquid. That liquid is alcohol and oil, half assed mixed. Then you evaporate the alcohol out, takes a week, maybe 2 weeks, depending on how much alcohol you used. But be patient and let the alcohol evaporate, leaving a very sticky, THICK oil. It is almost like TAR. VERY GUMMY! That alcohol will really mess up your lungs, so eveporate it all out until all you have is a TAR.

















You sill need a small sealable bottle to store it in,.

It is MESSY, use a stainless steal bowl.

What you are doing is mixing alcohol and oil, and then separateing it later.
Just like oil and vinegar salad dressing, they mix, but then they separate.
You use evaporation to separate them, that is why you use alcohol. WATER will not work!
Get the proper pipe, I like a glass bowl, and put one half drop on the end of a needle or pin, hold the flame under the bowl until the oil smokes and then hit it! Make sure you are near the sofa or a chair!


To make that hash oil, you got to have a metal fine mesh filter. A permanent non-disposable coffee filter works great. $3.00 at Walmart!

AGAIN VERY IMPORTANT; IF you make the OIL, you have to let it evaporate for a week or two weeks. IF you smoke the alcohol, it will really mess your lungs up.

I paid $30.00 bucks for mine and he burned the image on there for me, he stained the outside for me, and he also used a brass metal screen (instead of silk screen), all at my request, and all done extra for free, and the $30.00 included the shipping too. It IS kinda small at 4 1/4" X 4 1/4" but I figured for my first one I didn't want to spend a fortune. His work was worth the $30.00 to me, I like it and that's all that matters,lol.

His ebay name is Myronconnery253 on ebay. He has 2 different sizes out for sale right now but he will make any size you want and do any special order you want. The only thing he couldn't do for me was use a mirror instead of a see through piece of glass and that was only because he didn't have any, he's had so many special request for stainless and brass screens that he offers them (when he has the stock) for no charge so he might be getting some mirrors to use for the glass. So far, I really like mine but I wish it was a little larger than 4 1/4" X 4 1/4". I will probally order me a larger one in the near future.

As far as RIU goes, I haven't been back over there since I joined up here. YOU and the rest of our gang is here so no need to go back to RIU and risk anymore than I have to.

I am about to do an ISOPROPYL wash. Popcorn buds and leaf.
My experiment for today, will be, qwikwash a quantity, then, with the same solution, wash another quantity, etc.,......4 or 5 quarts of plant material. 1 quart of 91% iso.

To accomplish the evaporation, I'm thinking of a slowcooker, on the lowest/warm setting. That should be safe? Has anyone tried a slowcooker?

So i made some oil with some brick mexican(kinda crappy) using the isopropyl method. i broke it up good, strained it in a coffee filter and let it dry out...
Well i ended up with some black liquid like resin... So i took a big hit......and.....waited......smoked alot more, waited......Then Bang, Nothing! It didnt give me much of a High at all.....Garbage, i Failed... Any advice???
