Rep Power: 0 | | Green bud smells like hay?
How do you keep fresh dried buds from smelling like hay? will the smell go away with the curing process?
What do the large scale growers do to make good green smell so good?
Thanks

yah mine smell weird to i dont know about hay but definily not like weed. I just put my buds away to cure and hopefully it will change the smell. I think that the smell might come from the leaves that are still on the bud because i saved a couple big leaves and they smell the same just a lot stronger.

Usually Dank weed will smell good...
but also why they say to use plain water last week or two in flowering is for taste and smell as well...
I personally hang for a few days then do the paper bag thing rest of way... They usually give off the proper weed smell after a bit in the paper bag...
Then while its curing it gets even stronger...
that's for me that is... plus every strain is different... but none the less good weed will smell dank...

I learn on my last grow that I failed to completely dry them in the dark (steams didn't snap) when I cured them in the jar that little extra moisture didn't evaporate fast enough and my product lost the dank and went to the smell of hay.
(Even thou I rotated them daily too)
Lesson, let her dry COMPLETELY (snap) before jarring and it will keep the dank.

As Johnnyboy and Lumix noted, Watering with pure, clean H2O the last two weeks of flowering, a good drying in a dark, dry area with indirect airflow (until stems snap) - Then a good 15-30 days of curing.......Ahhhhhh! That's the ticket. There are some great posts within GP with various methods on the whole process.
Good Luck.....May the Dank be with you!

Is there anything can be done about the "hay smell" or is the harvest crap? (First time grower here)

Welcome to GreenPassion! If you read the whole thread you will read the answer to your question. They need to first dry for aprox 7 days in a dark place, until the twigs snap, with good air circulation. Then into jars for a month, with the jars being opened every day to let the air exchange, for at least the first week. After that, every 3 days just to move them around and make sure they are not molding....works for everyone else!
Peace
