Rep Power: 162 | | Do you trim close or loose?
So do you like to trim loose to get more to smoke or do you like to trim close to the bud for the best part and use the rest for other products?

I do final/close trim at harvest. Then, when dry, it's ready. And, many things can be made/extracted from the trim/dare I say, waste?

Close, but only to an extent, smaller buds often get a quicker trim and popcorn buds go untrimmed into the hash bag. I can see trichs all over the leaves so realize that they can have the effect we want but i still know they taste like hell compared to the buds. The only guy i know that trims poorly only has one eye and i tried to trim a bud once with one eye closed it wasn't easy. Turns out depth perception is important to the process.
Bottom line i see no reason for a loose trim on good dense buds unless you absolutely cannot find anyway to use the trim and need every scrap of thc you can get your hands on for meds. I'm sure there are those that do and whatever there reasons i'm sure it's fine for them but for me if it sticks out it comes off.

I have only had one harvest in two stages. First being all the top buds the bigger ones are much easier to work with. I trimmed them all with gr8t care trying to gather the leftovers to make some butter. The butter is amazing by the way.
The second cut I trimmed more loose since they were all bottom popcorn buds and all that trim will go into some oil EVOO to be exact. These buds were small to start so not too much to trim just a bit.
I am looking forward to much more trimming experiences in the future.
Oh and one more thing. As I was trimming in the kitchen I walked into the family room where my wife was sitting reading. I looked around to find about a dozen candles lit I wondered if she was having a spiritual reading? I didn't realize how much it smelled. LOL

if you trim close then you end up with about three different grades of trim... the closes to the bud being my favourite for either hash production, edibles or end of stash smoke reserve....

When I trim I only save the close parts of the leaves with trichs. I take a look at the bud w/ a magnifier to get an idea of what's worthwhile, it varies from plant to plant. Most leaf tips, even some small ones, are trimmed and discarded, along with fan leaves and most others with a stem big enough to cut. Once all the bald leaves and leaf tips are gone I trim aggressively at the buds, getting as much leaf as possible, even digging between them a bit. This is what I save.
All this is strictly my personal habit. I know I discard a lot of material others might save, but I'm best off when I know that whatever I have saved is A-1. Just me.

It depends how much I am harvesting and when it is. If I have a lot to set to dry, I tend to not trim as closely, due to time restraints. It is usually only me doing it anyway, so it depends on the quanitity. If it is one plant, I spend more time on it. If it is 12 plants, well, I get tired easily and it can seem like you will never get done!
Peace

Peace | Some of these chores can get so tedious. I hate having to stop everything just to scrape all that gooey, sticky, delicious hash off the pruning scissors. Such is life, I suppose (sigh).
