Rep Power: 88 | | day after harvest... humidity issue
I cut by ladies yesterday and hung them in the closet. I took all the lights out and placed two small fans on the floor to circulate air and left my exhaust fan and filter running. My problem now is that the temp has dropped to about 68 degrees and my humidity has risen to about seventy percent. I don't have a dehumidifier but i've heard rumors of using rock salt or other things to lower the humidity. Has anyone ever done this??? Any other suggestions about how to lower the humidity so I can avoid mold would be great. Thanks.

Do you have a little heater? Just heat the space up a few degrees and it should get rid of the moisture. And blow a bigger fan in the area to move the air around for an hour, and see if that helps.

don't have a heater... kinda short on funds at the moment. Maybe if I put a couple lights inside a box or something, not sure if that would work. Last time around I used a box to dry them, the kind with a screen and a couple little fans, but it took a while. I'll try a couple things and see what happens. thanks for the input though.

you dont really need the heater. it will dry a bit slower but as long as you have cool circulating air.. like from outside? or is it raining out... i usually dried somewhere with an open window and a good breeze

Rep Power: 201 | | I've heard of folks pouring a bag of water softening salt tablets in a trash can and adding it to the closet to absorb moisture. Pour out the water as it accumulates. Probably about the cheapest source of salt you'll find, good luck | | The Following User Says Thank You to Zigzagman For This Useful Post: | |

Don't freak. it is highly unlikely you will get mold while the plant is hanging if you didn't have it during the grow. What is happening is the 90% water weight of your weed is transpiring OUT and into the air. the humidity will drop as time goes on because there is less moisture in the bud.
Heaters, IMO, are dangerous beasts in drying areas. Dry your love too fast and you will be gasping for air after every hit until it is gone.
what you really need to watch for/when you really need to watch for mold is IN THE JAR. Folks sometimes fail to realize that even a snapping stem doesn't mean the weed is dry. Snap that stem after a week or 10 days hanging....then seal that bud up for a day in a container and i'll wager BIG that you will find your "dry' bud is again soft and spongy...and ringin with moisture. @ that point you need to start giving it air everyday....repeating until it is dry/where you want it to be.
leave it alone. have patience. there shouldn't be time for any mold to grow while things are drying unless you are surrounded by it in a basement/etc. (and even then,,,doubtful0
good luck

Thanks for the advice but I've gone to the method I used for drying my shake and fan leaves the last time... paper bags. I ended up with far less than I had anticipated and have stopped growing for the moment until I find a better way. I don't have a basement or enough room anywhere else in the house to set up anything respectable so I've been using a small closet in my room and six plants was really pushing it. I think I'll try and research some more on different methods of growing and see what I can come up with. I did notice some powdery mildew I think on one plant and I separated all that from everything else and I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. Its kinda a bummer cause the plants I had going were shining like a diamond with all the crystally goodness on them.
