Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding when to harvest, i have four healthy girls that go by the name of Big Bang,
out of the four one is way ahead of the others with regards to bud size and Trich amount/colour, the
trichs on this one are almost all milky with some amber. They are an eight week flowering strain and this is
week five and i'm wondering is it possible that this one is for some reason ahead of the others and ready to harvest.
Sorry no pics of Trichs as i dont have a microscope, but looking through an achromatic lens i can see some amber ones.
So do you think it is ready?/
Peace and light
McBong

I harvest by the trics, never mind the time. It can go longer, it can go shorter. Especailly growing indoors. There are so many variables to do with it. Maybe that plant was closer to the light. It could be a faster genome of the same type of seeds.
When a seed vendor gives a time length for harvest that is under optimal conditions, most likely with a couple of 1000 w lights etc. Our conditions are not always optimal so it becomes a matter of experiance.
As well, I harvest strictly by the trics. I do not like couchlock. I prefer an active high. So I harvest when they are cloudy, not half amber. With some types half amber is too strong or else it is on the down swing. What you can do is harvest a small bud, dry it in the mircro wave as is shown on the site. It might be a bit harsh but you will get an idea of what stage your smoke will be at, for that stage of tric development. Then you have a better idea what you will get when it is properly cured. Also, the trics continue to mature after harvest so also consider that.
I also harvest in stages. Say the top bud is where you want it, but there are other buds not as ripe lower down the plant. Harvest the ripe one only, not the whole plant, and let the unripe bud fill in more and get to the point you want. This will increase your yeild by a third to even double at times. It is well worth waiting a few more weeks after all the time you have already commited to the plant.
Good luck!

j-angel thank you so much, i think i'm going to try a small bit and dry it in the micro and see how it is, i think i will do as you suggested and take the top bud off and leave the rest to mature a bit more.
Peace and light

If heat is indeed a factor then i can now see why this one may be almost ready, the room my grow room is in also has my hot water boiler and the temp in here sits about 75/80F.

hi McBong, I was wondering if this was the first time you had grown big bang. I just germinated some big bang seeds and was wondering if you had any advice, or even some pictures of the girls?

McBong | Those temps are good, it is not the heat bothering them, it should be aprox 78f is where it likes it. somedude is saying his flowering area is cooler, which is why he needs a heater.
Peace

I Wouldn't Think They Were Ready After Just 35-Days Of Flowering, I Would Wait Tell Atleast 56-Days Before You Started Harvesting.

Greengiant; not only is this my first time growing Big bang this is my first ever grow, as for advice, i can only offer the advice i was given by the kind members of GP,
Make sure they are getting enough light
Also feed them the proper nutrients and don't do what i did and give them only water until yesterday 1st feed. my bad.
Use a fan to blow air about to help keep them cool and promote stem strength, temp should be around 78F
Give them enough water but not too much as they don't like sitting in water.
Rest assured though weed is entirely that a weed and should grow given some TLC
Here are some of my pics of the girls;

Hatch; I intend doing just that, i think i was kidding myself that they were ready so i could have a smoke but that's just my impatience getting the better of me, good things come to those who wait allegedly.
Peace and light
McBong

All of those seem to have some time to go yet, Mcbong. That red one is a beauty! 3rd and 4th pics. VERY nice!
I am sure you still have possibly a couple weeks at least to go yet. Check the trics first, but I would say they are not yet ready. Looks like they are still pumping out pistols for you, sweetie....
Those hairs should at least be gold if not brown and as they rippen they will get not as obvious.

Thanks so much J-angel, been checking the Trichs daily now and have noticed that on the one that i think is almost ready there are some amber ones to be found but not many, most are still clear and turning milky. Can't be too long now, i think i'll give it another week or two and see how it goes along the way, the other three i'm sure will catch up soon enough, fingers crossed.
Peace
McBong

Beauty girls Mcbong! Really nice!
One thing you will notice as they get close to finish is the fan leaves start dieing off. That is normal and nothing to worry about.
I would say at least 3 weeks to go. And I have seen them just hang with some cloudy trichs for a couple weeks at least. So don't think it will be tomorrow.
Patiance!

J-angel Ta for that, i had been doing some reading ( five hrs worth last night ) and noted that in most posts it was advised to leave the fan leaves on as long as possible as this is the buds/plants food source, i plan on only taking off the dead and yellow ones nothing else. I am learning that patience is a good thing and the girls will be better with a little more time under the light.
Peace and light

wow, big bang has very distinctive leaves, every photo i've seen of that strain the plant has the same serration patterns, it's probably the only plant i could name in a lineup.
sorry not adding anything to the discussion, just an aside i felt the urge to share.
