48hrs of Darkness

I see people say that 48hrs of darkness before harvest makes your pot stronger. How to hell can this be. I agree it will produce more resin because it natural defence induced by the stress but with no light on the Trics how does it make more THC?

I think this theory is based on the belief that the plant senses the end of life cycle, and as such puts all its energy into the plant, in an attempt to save itself.

I was under the understanding that the Trics are design to funel light onto the surface and when this light (UVB light)hit the surface a chemical reaction take place and THC is a product of this reaction, if there is no light there is no THC made. The resins may be produce but no THC so how would darknesss make it stronger POT?

It is all theory untill several independant well designed experiments confirm it..I heard well respected growers on both sides of this issue...to date neither side has any definitive proof or even good anecdotal evidence for one side or the other...my gut instinct (to add one more poorly evidenced opinion..is that anybody who tries a special growing technique and believes it works will have the placebo effect kick in to convince them...is any one aware of some real evidence out there?

Both sides? why would anyone say this with out some bases seem to be all the rage and there is nothing to make it even make some kind of sense. It seems to be a bit in left center field to me if there is not conditions to create THC the plant is not going to be stronger if anything it will be weeker than the same plant with 2 extra days of light. Is that how thing go someone comes up with an idea with no bases and we all agree it a good idea and waste time trying it.....What to heck is a theory that has no merit. I know we need facts, thing that work that will make us all better growers not theories that make no sense what so ever.

I am hope I get someone who will prove me wrong but I am sure I won't. There are tons of new growers that don't need this bullshit told to them it hard to get started and many thing to consider when starting and this is one of those hippy tales that they will have to weed out. Peace

Very true Scott and Trigger. In my opinion, just stick to the basics and you'll do great. Forget all the fancy "tricks" being tossed around.

Who knows how long the process for THC production takes? Isn't it possible that sufficient light or UVB could be absorbed to allow for THC production for X hours longer?

I hear your frustrations about theories - but without central bodies to do these studies you talk about ... it remains at a grassroots level which keeps it a little less focused and disorganized ... but it's still a progressive process ... no?

I hear what your saying but why don't we stick with what we know, what regions in the world grow the strongest pot? They are location that have the highest UVB index dry area with the strongest and most hours of sunlight. We also know that Trics have a dome that at no matter what angle the light hits the dome it direct light into the center. They know at this point when light hits the center that is when the fuild or what ever you want to call it start moving in the trics and THC is produced they are not sure how but they know when. So knowing this why would people not look to using better light rather than no light. I guess what gets me is people are being told this works when in fact it doesn't.
