Total Nute Change

I started this DWC grow using the Aqua Vega nutes (2 part) from Canna. Things were going well for the first few days till I noticed all the problems from the mag, so I added epsom salts (too much), and the PPM went ballistic.

Plants got nute lock-up from too much epsom salt, so I knew I needed a early res change as the Willie was looking rather limp and sad...

So, I mixed a new bin up with a totally different nute, as I used 2 tsp. of the Plant Marvel Cal-Mag Plus and 1 tsp. of the Gen Purpose Plus.

" General Purpose 20-20-20 PLUS Specially formulated as a general purpose feed for use on ornamental plants, small shrubs, grasses, fruits and vegetables, and other intensely cultivated crops."

"Cal Mag Special 17-5-17 PLUS with 4% Ca and 1% Mg Very close to the perfect fertilizer all in one bag. It contains all the major and minor nutrients including phosphate, calcium and magnesium in a highly soluble form. High Nitrate to ammonia ratio. The ratio of phosphorous to nitrogen is tuned to reduce stretch."

I did call the manufacturer and they tell me that the nutes will do a very good job in the DWC, so, I went and did it.

Dissolved them in a gallon of pure water first, then added to the clean bin. Ph'd to 5.5, and it has remained stable all day. PPM is a rock-solid 500 so far, and I expect it won't change too dramatically...but not positive.

Warming it up now to the right temp (DWC bins have been running at 69 degrees). Soon as it's warm enough I'll move the plants into their new home. Hope this straightens out the problems!

Hey ISO,I think you will want the res temp to be from 63 to 70 degree,it is the best temps for nutr up take.The PH is fine and the ppm's are good too.If it is 68 or 69 degree I would let it be.PEACE

Thanks! The res is now (plants not in yet) at 64 degrees, so I'll go change them over to it.

Got me fingers crossed that this new nute set up will really make them "Happy" so they grow like......weeds!

Looks like the nute change went well..

The plant (Sweet Willie) was looking pretty sad last night when I went to bed, but this morning she's a happy girl! I did have to trim a couple leaves that would not recover from the Mag. deficiency, but otherwise I think she will do well.

Current nutes are (in 7.5 gal) 2 tsp. Plant Marvel Cal-Mag special and 1 tsp. General Purpose. PPM rose a little during the night, but Ph was totally stable at 5.6.

I was pretty worried that totally changing the grocery menu (nutes) on them would upset them...not in the least from what I can tell.

looking good to me man i would have done the same thing ... whenever in doubt change the res and they will perk up glad they did to i wanna see these willies grow up!

Seems that before I go making any premature announcements I best give it a few days and see how it's doing then. I think most plants can handle a bit of a shake-up for a day or so, but a week will tell me if it's got it's shiat together and will grow like it's supposed to.

So far, my SW in soil is outpacing this one in growth, but this one is still looking OK for now. The Mag shortage really did some damage to a few of the leaves, and they are having a tough time recovering.

I think she is recovering just fine.In hydro things do happen fast,What I mean by fast if you do something wrong it shows you now.But it dose take a little time to get well.The plant cells and the roots need to breath some.Be sure to clean the air stone when you change the res water.Is that a pix before or after you change the res?If after you dont have to worry to much.You did right.when in doubt flush them out.That applys to hydro and soil.In hydro just plain PH water for a couple of days and go back to good nutr.You are learning and doing very good. PEACE
