Default Simple DWC - Help - 1st grow

Okay, since things aren't working out with the Stealth Hydro set-up I got, I think I'm gonna take a different direction. SO! I have seen people use 1 gallon containers to do a full grow. Like a gallon jug, DWC style. So I've picked up (3) 1 gallon jugs of Crystal Geyser - All Natural Alpine Spring Water. I need advice on preparing this water for some unhealthy blueberry babies. I mean they aren't crap, but they're not growing. I got almost a full line of Advanced nutrients to work with. PH strips, up and down. I mean as far as I know I got everything.

Someone help me get these babies growing RIGHT! I've heard blueberry can be a BITCH to grow, but the rewards are worth it I've seen.

If someone can let me know what all to do before setting the babies in the jugs I would really appreciate it so I can get started today. Thanks.

Hey buddy, purely out of curiosity, why isnt the stealth hydro setup working?
I'm ony asking because I have one too, sitting in the corner waiting to be used.
Peace

PS, one gallon jugs sound small to me, the smallest I've ever used was a 3 gallon jug.

i have the dwc kit and my baby's are doing awesome showing great growth every day i have an abundance of roots and im growing under CFLS no crazy stuff just grow nutes that came with it . And blueberry is a hard strain sometimes it is a strain better left to the pros. and as far as a 1 gallon bucket / jug ..... im going to say no way on that one by the time it matures there will be over a gallon in roots from 1 plant!!! the roots get ridiculously big very quickly and that is just not enough room . However with VERY little work you can do a DWC in a 5 gal bucket and i have heard great things about that! go to the DIY section of this form for instructions on how to make your bucket.
good luck and keep us posted!

oh come on, I'm not growing a ten foot weed tree

I've seen it done. If anyone can tell me how, great, if not, I'll figure it out on my own or do some searches for past grows where I've seen people do this. I just wanted advice on water prepping.

ok im trying to let you know a plant about 4' has a root structure that should be around almost 2 gallons of room so if this is not the case for you then i would say you are having a root growth problem my 1 week old from seed baby's are showing about 15 7" shoots already. however i would like to see how you manage.... good luck

ya know, in worst case scenario if it doesn't work out (I'd like to keep them at about 2-3 feet tall, SOG - DWC style) because of the space issue, I could always cut away the bottle.

NOW could somebody help me with the water preperation?

i use R/O water you can get it at most pet supplies shops or go to a grocery store and get distilled water in the water isle, if you bought the DWC from stealth then you probably got the ph test strips with ph up and ph down so that solves the ph problem (you want around 6.5) and when your dealing with your new plants you might want to dilute the grow nutes to 1/4 of recommended and add a little each resevior change until you are at the full 1 tbs per gal. and make sure you are not getting any light into the water that the plant is in light will promote the growth of algae and could seriously hinder your plants or kill them.
p.s. if i was to do this in a 1 gallon container i would still use the biggest air stone i could fit in the bottom alot of air to the roots is essential for DWC.

No one gal jugs will not work. You said its BB they get tall about 36" to 48" and the roots will fill 3 gal space.ClosetDWC said all and is right on. Get a 5 gal bucket and lid put a 5" round air stone in the bottom and get a air pump and grow. Here's some pixs of the roots on my DWC growing right now.You will see what we are telling you.PEACE P.S. the last pix is when I started this plant.
